This is just scary…I bought the procal, the rack is on the way, and 74weld kit ordered because Ford said it worked…now it looks like a total waste of money….need a new plan to get it all installed and working when everything gets here….
It may take a little while, but Ford's got to get this fixed. I assume they didn't do much real world testing. Probably the programming file is somewhere on the network that at least in some cases the installer's don't have access to.

Talked to our Ford Master Tech... now, they may have done this. But this is what he's seen happen quite a bit.

New vehicles need a 75% battery charge now to load any program into anything.

He recomends charging the battery... and while charging, hooking up the ground to the frame and not the battery terminal, so the current passes through and resets the BMS (battery monitoring sensor).

Then leave the battery charger hooked up but at the low setting. And seing if that will work.

Note that the procal needs to be hooked up with the old rack installed to download that info before swapping to the new one.

Hope this can help...

So I bought the new steering rack upgrade that Ford Performance was selling on their website recently, and opted to just have the dealer install it with my procal since it seemed straight forward enough.

Well my Bronco has been sitting for well over a week now because the damn procal won’t load the files for programming. Despite following the instructions the mechanics are getting a “Calibration not found” error and Ford Performance doesn’t even seem to know what the problem is. My bronco meets the requirements, 2023 badlands with Sasquatch, and keep in mind I also have the tune installed which I imagine is the same situation for a lot of people who have a Procal 4. Seems like they put out a half baked solution. Kind of regret buying this rack now even though I’m planning to move up to 37s at some point soon. I’m pissed because if they can’t figure it out it’s going to end up with me having to just put the old rack back in and paying for all this labor with nothing to show for it.

has anyone been able to successfully install this thing?
Hi there! Would you send us a private message with your VIN and dealership name and location? I’d like to look into this concern on my end.

Seems like the main issue is getting the rack programming file onto Procal 4 in the first place
hmmm, well, anxious to hear the fix... You've just been sent to the front of the line!

I have been trading calls and emails with the Ford Performance folks for 3 weeks now since my rack came in. Today's exchanges they asked for the screen shot of the module screen on the Pro Cal when plugged into the Bronco to see the vin current config etc. Said they may be able to use this to push the file to me, or at least that is how I interpreted the email. Will let you know if I get a work around sent.

They said the same thing to me yesterday but I haven’t heard anything new.

Worries me that you’ve been talking to them for 3 weeks and have no progress. My Bronco has been sitting for 10 days now waiting on them.

I am sitting on ordering mine wondering about any possible issues people have run into. The dealers in So Cal had no idea what I was was talking about when calling for quotes and to see if they can do it. Been about 2 weeks. I have found 2 that said they will do it BUT both sound hesitant in their confidence to do the job. I cannot afford to be without a car for more than a few days.

If you’re using a Procal to program don’t buy it, I suspect they’re not going to have a solution anytime soon. If I don’t get a solution in the next week I’m bailing on this. Gonna be two weeks soon.

At this point if I could somehow get my old rack put back in and not get charged for anything I’d probably send this Hoss 3.0 rack to 74Weld and let them put it in a stage 2 housing and program it, then just install it myself, as difficult as that may be.

But it says a procal is required.

I am fortunate in that I did not try to install mine yet, so vehicle is still up and running. I am waiting on suspension parts from Baja Kits and planning to so the install when I already have everything off so I am good for a little longer wait. Just crazy that you have to buy the Pro-Cal, but then they only seem to have it set up for the non tuned Pro-Cal.

I was entertaining the purchase and installation of a severe duty rack for peace of mind. But with very few experienced resources in south Louisiana, I took a hail-marry pass and sent a message to Broncbuster. To my great surprise, Tyler Mason called me. The basic breakdown is:
  • SAS
    • Bushing
    • Braces
  • Lift and 37's
    • Add Housing
  • Lift, 37's, and hard wheeling
    • switch to Severe-duty rack
  • Serious Wheeling and/ or 37+ tires
    • Upgrade your severe-duty rack
    • or replace his custom severe-duty rack
I will upgrade to add housing and stop when I get to 37's. Then when I destroy or cause overheating in my rack, I will jump straight to his custom serve duty rack. Gotta to save a buck where I can, to put my kids through school. ;)

On a second note, I would advise anyone with steering questions to contact him as he is an official Ford performance dealer and works with their engineers. Also, I don't know or heard of anyone documenting as much broken crap on a Bronco to learn its limits as he has. That has to be worth something.

how does this help with the original topic of the Ford Performance Severe Duty Steering Rack ProCal programming issue?

did broncbuster opine on that?

He doesn't even program the racks he sells...

  • SAS
    • Bushing (Rough Country for $50)
    • Braces (damages the rack, bad idea)
  • Lift and 37's
    • Add Housing (waste of money as the 37s will overheat and kill the rack anyways, just give it time)
  • Lift, 37's, and hard wheeling
    • switch to Severe-duty rack (Actual good information)
  • Serious Wheeling and/ or 37+ tires
    • Upgrade your severe-duty rack (just throwing money away)
    • or replace his custom severe-duty rack (74weld full rack? his product isn't even in the same category)
I will upgrade to add housing and stop when I get to 37's. Then when I destroy or cause overheating in my rack, I will jump straight to his custom serve duty rack. Gotta to save a buck where I can, to put my kids through school. ;)

He leaves a lot out of that explanation like a good sales man. Fixed it for you.
