Hey guys,
I tried searching forums, but keep getting upsized tire threads....
My question is if you have the Sasquatch package already with the (315/70/17), and you have access to all train tires that are( 285/70/17) what would be the downfall in using them?

Other than the speedo reading faster than it should and making the odometer go faster because the circumference on the 285 is smaller thus making the odo turn faster... are there any other downsides? Potential faster wear on the differentials/ transfercase etc??

Also is there a way to use forscan to caliberate for the smaller tire size??

I really like those 285 tires that i had on my old truck, and have barely any miles on them.... would love to use them either on my bronco or on my 4runner...
but wherever i look (youtube/ forums ) the 5th gen 4runner will rub unless you start cutting the bumper, inner fenders or raise it....raising my 4runner is out of the question.... and cutting it... i prefer to keep the truck as close to stock as possible without shaving parts...

other option would be to sell the tires... but i never have any luck with kijiji or fb marketplace..

So will there be any negatives on using 285s on them sasquatch pkg bronco?

Short answer: No downsides except speedo and ground clearance.

Also: likely better acceleration and mpg, depending on the wheel/tire combo, less likely to break a tie rod.

You can calibrate the speedo with FORSCAN.

cool thanks, with the recal would it fix the speedo and odo?

Also would ford dealers do the recal for 285s or find someone to do it?

I have never asked the dealer... I have always done my own FORSCAN mods. Seems like the speedo and odo are working from the same variable, but I have never actually checked that closely... 1 mile on Google maps seems to equal 1 mile on the ODO, so that was good enough for me. I am sure that over 1k miles that I might be able to detect a slight amount of deviation.

I usually just go out and verify that GPS and my speedometer agree and call it done.

I run 285s (studded Hakkas) in the winter on my SAS setup. The speedo is ~4mph +/- faster than actual and I never felt the need to recalibrate it. Mileage does seem to be a bit better.
Here's the thread.

Dealers cannot change or recalibrate the speedometer, unless one of the technicians has access to forscan.
Ford removed the ability to do that with their diagnostic software a long time ago.

Ability to change the tire size comes with the ProCal tuner. A lot more expensive than Forscan but worth it for the tune.

Oh So forscan is like the VAG-com (For VW) but for Ford! I thought it was their official diagnostic program! LOL

The reason I 'm running to this issue is on all my previous cars/trucks I always UP-sized to a larger wheel / tire combo... so speedo / Odometer were never an issue as well the odometer would accumulate the mileage at a slower pace because of the larger circumference of tire...
But now
DOWNsizing to a smaller tire size is a negative for me because the odometer would accumulate faster (ie. go through the miles fast because of the lower cirfcumfrence). And the reason it worried me was because i'd go throught he miles faster thus for selling the car down the road in the future and run out of warranty sooner than i would if i kept the same size tires?

That's why i started the thread, if i was going the other way going to 37s etc... then no wouldnt bother with it.. lol

The reason i ask is when you build your own bronco on ford's website... if you choose the sasquatch option it says you have to choose the 4.7 rear end with the 35" tires... so i thought maybe there was also a calibration for the different wheel/ tire size going up and down the different sizes.... from 255 to 285s, 315s, and the 37s on the raptor for the platform.

I wonder if we’ll ever see a day where people start recognizing that their speedo will be off by a % rather than a fixed mph…

yes but i was just thinking about the increase in mileage accumulating at a faster rate with downsizing LOL
https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=315-70r17-285-70r17

when you do the overlay option, you can see it's about 1.65 inches shorter and circumference is about 5.19 inches smaller... so i thought it was increase that much more.

Is that why at 0 mph changing the tire size has no impact on the speedometer? LOL

There is a different calibration for each size. But it’s set from the factory. Nothing the dealership can change
