This summer there has been a bad smell and I have pinpointed it to the seat belt and all of that column. Not sure if it leaked or something got in and died? It’s been here for months now. Usually something that dies, the smell goes away? I pulled it apart and found it is really bad on the seatbelt. The dealer said it’s not a “dead” smell but they cannot figure it out. Smells like an old fishing tackle box with the old rubber worms. The service manager suggested it may be the materials, lubricants or adhesive breaking down causing the smell. Anyone else had this issue? If so how’d you fix it?

Anyone else had this issue?
No. I have owned a few new Broncos and, with the exception of a strong vinyl smell in the soft top that eventually went away, they all smelled like your typical new car.

First thought was a mouse...but if you've taken it all apart and it's been a while....

Baking soda, Nok-out?, something like that....

This reminds me of an old story that happened to me...........

The wife of a buddy of mine said you need to clean my car out something stinks.

About 6 months prior we were out on an adventure, common for us back in the day we enjoyed adventuring in the wild to see what we could find. One of the guys with us said, "Look it's a box turtle". Didn't think anything of it at the time.

Flash forward to cleaning out the car. As I finally made my way through the junk so I could look under the seat, much to my dismay what did I find????? "Hey Harry, I found the source of your smell." "That f%$&ing Ray. Wait till I get my hands on him!!", he replied. Turned out the guy who found the turtle wanted to take it home, problem was he forgot he put it under the seat. :cautious:

It was not a pretty sight or smell. 🤪

Just had to post, this thread reminded me of it.

How's your cabin air filter looking? One of my old cars sat unused for a long while, and snails infested the cabin air filter and had a similar type smell.

Nope. Mine still smells like brand new when I get in. Never had any bad smells. There is definitely a cause to the smell and it's not normal based on other responses. So you have something going on. Do you have kids? Or someone that could have dropped something between cracks in that area? Like food. or if you hunt or had raw meat/food on the rear floor mats. Possibly some liquids dripped into the carpeting/floor mats around the B pillar?
