Keeping factory amp - you can upgrade to a 6.5" Kicker but the results will be modest, at best. And being honest, not sure it's worth the hassle it takes getting at the enclosure just to replace the speaker but leave the OEM amp, since you already have the factory setup.

If you had no subwoofer at all (the sub delete folks), then yeah, I'd say it's worth while to add a sub when you had none at all. But having the OEM setup, I would leave that alone unless you are also willing to upgrade the amplifier. Then you will see some dividends.

Factory amp is 110W, as is the OEM sub. The Kicker CompRT 6.5" is 150W - it is a bit better than the stock speaker, but not that much better without more power behind it. It will drop right in the enclosure, but you will have to shave off some plastic alignment tabs and drill/screw in to new mount points. I also recommend sealing the OEM enclosure, but that's a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

I've got a Kicker 6.5" sitting on the shelf from where I tried exactly what you are talking about, have been tempted to get a second and try them in the kick panels but haven't done anything with it yet. The 6.5" sounded ok once I put a bigger amp behind it, and I eventually upgraded again to the 8" Kicker, although now I'm also eyeballing pulling that out since I can't get rid of the occasional body panel rattle.

Super easy upgrade with a Kicker sub. It needs minimal skilzs to do this job. Uses the factory amp too.

Echoing Brian_B . . . fitting the Kicker 6.75" in the existing enclosure is relatively easy but the gain over the stock is, IMO, hardly worth the effort/expense. I had the factory-delete and replaced the faux units with a functioning "factory" (frequently referred to here as "Focus") amp and the Kicker and am happy though I'm comparing no-sub to having a sub; it's still obviously a far cry from a larger sub with an adequate power supply. With the factory amp and the size/space limitations of the factory enclosure there's not a whole lot one can do there. To do anything more the effort/expense ratio and the potential impact to the interior quickly charts a curve which I didn't want to follow. IMO the next big jump is something like the MTI or similar sub box on the tailgate. I think those provide a decent tradeoff between cost and sacrificed interior space but not something I've felt the need to pursue at this point.

I replaced all the speakers in my 24 with Kicker speakers. Used a kicker 6.75 sub with factory amp and the rear pods with 6.5's with the Mabett pods. No amp yet. Sub sounds way better and with some minor Forscan tweaks, I think it's a great improvement. It's not thundering loud but sufficient for me especially with the top and doors off. Didn't spend a fortune either.

PlugNPlaykits.com has a harness that is pretty easy to install that would let you change to a better subwoofer and add an amp for just the subwoofer leaving factory amp in place. I think he has a kit that would get you the subwoofer, amp and harness. easy route to go
