Hi,

My threads are broken on my oil pan so can’t put a drain plug. Ordered a new oil pan already with the dealer ( will take 1month to come). Was looking for a solution to be able to use the car till they receive it and found this Dorman product 090-080CD, wanted to know if anyone already used it or if anyone know if it can fit and be a solution for 1 month.

‘thank you!

1 month to get? Should be a few days out at worst, Ford has over 100 in stock. Or can they just not get to the repair for 1 month?

Looks like he's in Madagascar...could be the reason for delayed delivery?

If the drain threads on the pan are already broken, not sure that anything is gonna be able to get in there and stop it up without drilling it out evenly. But, I guess, if you are replacing the pan anyway... then something like the Dorman could work ok. But you may still have to do some clean up depending on how the threads broke.

I dunno how you'd get that Dorman plug in or out if that spring loaded anchor decides to start turning and can't get a grip. I guess you hope it catches on the curve of the pan and sticks well enough.

For an extreme temporary fix, yeah, you could probably go ahead and do that. It is NOT a long-term fix.

Funny story about those...back in college I co-op'd for a GM plant, and in the summer over their 2-week shutdown they would let students work at nearby GM dealerships to see that end of the business.

I was in the service writer area, and a guy came in for an oil change, and wanted some other things looked at. Took the vehicle back, an hour later the tech comes up with a rag FULL of the little butterfly nuts and that drain plug. We're talking 20 or so of those nuts, that he fished out of the bottom of the pan. Threads completely stripped out of the oil pan.

Customer came back to check on his vehicle, we showed him the rag and the plug, told him we could NOT reinstall one of those, but with stripped threads he needed a new oil pan (GM prefers if only GM parts are used). He blew up, claimed that dealer always did his oil changes, despite the computer system saying he hadn't had an oil change with them in 100k miles...he ended up getting it towed out of there.

So yeah, I see those and shake my head, since on a steel oil pan I have NEVER had to use something like that...oil drain plugs should be just past hand-tight, there is no reason those threads should ever be stripped out or cross-threaded if you're taking your time and doing it right. Plastic pans...different story.

Most oil drain plugs are close enough to a 'corner' that they'll catch and stay put. I still don't like the Dorman things, but since he's replacing the pan anyway, I agree that he could use this as a temporary solution to get back on the road until his new pan arrives.

When I worked as a Honda tech, I always replaced the aluminum gasket (“crush washer”) on the drain plug, ALWAYS, still go today on all of the Hondas in my household (currently 3). The only pans I had to replace due to stripped threads generally a) had oil changes at instant oil change places and b) still had the original gasket on the drain plug.

Plastic oil pans are a STUPID idea!!!

Yes. They said at least 30days so I think could be longer than that 🥲

Exactly what I was thinking. Wrote to Dorman but no answer yet if it could work so I prefer to ask here, faster answer

I was planning to use it 1 month till I receive the new pan and get it changed

I guess if it's just gotta last until the new pan gets there - Stick it in and RTV the crap out of it when you do, it only has to work once and doesn't have to ever come back out.
