I have an Autovox rearview mirror on my Transit Connect cargo van. Have had issues with flickering rear image. They ended up selling me a replacement rear camera with a discount but the issue remained.

Depth perception on the replacement one seems bit off but its better than nothing. I would not buy Autovox again however. The Wolf one looks decent.

Based on the issues i've read on this thread, i wish you could get the Brandmotion camera mount bracket separately.

What do you mean depth perception? There's no depth on a screen

Exactly.

On the mirror you are still getting stereoscopic vision to your eyes but the camera/screen combo is just a flat image and you have to use other cues to judge distance of objects.

The wide angle camera replacement i got for my Autovox...yeah its hard to judge just how far back a car is. However, the wide angle covers my cargo van blind spots perfectly...even better than my blind spot mirrors.

Wondering if anyone has mounted their rear camera to the rear tire carrier somehow. Would be great to have a mount that attaches to a lug nut or a bracket that can poke out between one of the spokes of the rim.

i've been looking around a bit and have found a few options, but wondering if anyone has already solved this problem.

Something like this is what im thinking https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BSD4LLVD

Also to note, I noticed Wolfbox has an "upgraded waterproof rear camera" as an accessory: https://wolfbox.com/products/wolfbox-upgraded-wdr-rear-camera-waterproof-car-rear-view-camera

Just received my Fullvue Bronco Kit from Northridge4x4.com today. It was on closeout for 308.00, so I said what the hell. My question is for those that have installed it, that have a bronco with the auto dimming mirror. What did you all do with that factory mirror harness after installing this new camera/mirror? It appears that this kit does not utilize it at all. Did you tuck it behind the forward radar camera housing and out of the way? Or am I missing something here? I would hate to leave a harness dangling in my new 60k vehicle. Thanks in advance.

@BulldogBuck yes there is a button on the bottom of the mirror that will turn off the display and it will function just like a regular mirror.
ok, THAT'S the way to do it.

Screens are shiny toys, but they are inferior tools for this purpose. There is a major physiological difference between looking into a mirror and looking at a screen; screens are harder, and at 70mph you don't need that extra stress that a screen puts on your visual system.

Overall I don't like or want my mirrors to be screens; in this case, though, having the ABILITY to see behind you when the top is down is better than not having any visual access to what's directly behind you.

Although, truck drivers do it all the time...

does it take getting used to the mirror being a screen vs a real mirror?
Yes, absolutely. And you don't "get used to it"; there's a difference between your visual system focusing on the items in the mirror vs focusing on the screen itself. It's just how we're built and how mirrors work compared to screens.

In a mirror, believe it or not, you are seeing the objects at the distance at which they are at relative to you. Your focal system quite literally stays focused for distance. So switching from looking out the windshield to looking into the rear view mirror does NOT force you to change your focal point. Distance is distance.

But switching from viewing far objects out the windshield to viewing the screen, means re-focusing from far to near. You don't see the objects in the mirror at the distance they actually are; instead, you're seeing the screen--and so you have to change your focus to close-up.

It's a small but very very important distinction. No doubt some people will have trouble doing this back and forth. For others, there's a finite amount of time and effort required to make that change of focal point.

And it can cause fatigue, if nothing else.

Screens are not better than mirrors for this application, not at all.

And of course, mirrors don't stop being mirrors because a fuse blew.

Anyone mount the camera for use as a front trail camera? That's what I'd consider buying this for.

@raqball There is a forward camera built into the Mirror. all you have to do is swipe left or right to switch views. You have the options of rear, front, or a split view.

I want more of a trail camera and using the camera that comes with it in the front might accomplish that..

What did you guys do with the factory harness on your mirror. The fullvue kit, seems to bypass it, or not use it at all? Did you tuck it out of the way?
