Brake Upgrade Ideas

I tried doing a search but there wasn't a lot of posts on this so thought I'd make one.

I'm looking to upgrade my brakes because I've done quite a bit of work on my Bronco. I feel like the stock brakes just aren't doing enough now with all the added weight plus I do tow every once in a while. I'm not going to go through all the accessories I have on my rig at this time, but I recently did upgrade to 37-inch K02, 3-inch adventure zone lift, and Icon Tie Rod's.

Unless you’re feeling brake fade, new slotted rotors won’t do anything except reduce your pad life. Cross-drilled has the trade off of making the rotors weaker. Pad material may help but I wouldn’t expect to see much difference.

to get more braking power you need more brake assist and bigger rotors, calipers.

for towing, use a trailer with brakes.

Appreciate the feedback! I’ve read just putting better brake pads may do the trick for now. The kits that I found for calipers and bigger rotors were about 2200. Seems like this kit is more headache than it’s worth.

I may just try replacing the pads and just adding the trailer brake controller.

If you are doing just pads pay attention to the working temp ranges. When you get into more aggressive pads they tend to have less bite when cold. I’ve had pretty aggressive pads on other vehicles that would barely stop when they were cold. Once warmed up they were great but it was a tradeoff. Id worry how these would work in a cold and low speed environment.

Did this kit on my F150 a few years ago when I put on larger tires and raptor wheels and a huge improvement! When my Bronco needs new brakes I'm doing this kit with Powerstop. Don't hesitate they are great and you can't beat the price. I think when I did my F150 it was cheaper to do all new brakes and slotted rotors then to have Ford put on some new pads and resurface.

MIne only has 22k on it but I will definitely be looking at powerstop brake kit with slotted rotors when I need new brakes. I would not keep the OEM and pay more.

I did a full powerstop slotted rotor kit on my Ram 1500, very mild improvement over stock. The brakes just a had very linear feel and dead quiet. The pads and rotors are a fantastic deal for what they are, I would hands down buy them again as factory replacements. Pad life is definitely shorter but I was on track to get 75k miles out of them. Definitely stopped a good 10ft sooner, but I only tried that twice.

I want at least 20-30ft improvement to even think about working on the brakes.

I never ended up doing it. My bronco currently has 34k miles on it so figured I would wear out the current brakes first before making the upgrade. It's still on my to do list and what I will probably end up going with.
