If someone wants to try and estimate distances, the standard for line length and line spacing is 10' lines with 30' between them.
I know it doesn't look like that, but trust me it is.
Measure for yourself if in doubt.
Keep in mind that the distances are fore-shortened due to the camera angle.

That being said, I drive a lot in highway traffic out here in Arizona (and learned to drive in the NY/CT metro when I grew up there 30 years ago ) where sudden stops are a common occurrence (with a ton of multi vehicle rear-ending crashes like this). White car was definitely an ass hat, but I do think it tells you something about the combination of desirable following distances in tandem with slowing down.

I know I drive a hell of a lot more conservatively in this regard with my Raptor than I do with my EV6 out here. Occasionally dumb asses cut in front of me, but our braking distances really are not good and a lot of vehicles can stop faster than us.

I'm also surprised like others said that you didn't brake more aggressively once you saw vehicles in front of you were basically going panic stop. I know I'm always trying to keep an eye on what's going on several cars ahead of me (which is easy with how tall we are) and I've actually seen multi-car accidents setup several seconds before they occur and thought to myself: "Yep, these morons are screwed" and been already slowing as a crash happens that I could have been tangled up in.

Hopefully you are not ultimately assigned any blame for damage, but like others have said, there were things you probably could have done to minimize the chance of ending up tangled in this.

That ditch on left is much steeper than appears. Only choice was to hit but make sure dont kill anyone. Raptor did NOT get squirrelly it stayed true but man they should have upgraded brakes it just kept going lol

Oh, I was totally kidding, I am sure moving to the median could have made the situation possibly more exciting and dangerous for you. Glad it was as minor as you said, you got to drive home to see another day. What dash cam are you using?

Regardless of the car cutting in front of you, how did you not see the line of brake lights ahead of you long before the dummy in the white car swerved over? There was clearly ample time to stop. Tell the truth...you were texting when this happened, weren't you?

i had this happen to me and the broncos collision avoidance system locked my brakes up before i could react, saving my ass in the process.

Seriously, driver's in the sky in that Raptor, should've been able to see that. He probably would've rear ended the silver car had that white one not've changed lanes.

UPDATE: 100% 0 Fault based on video.

0 liability and all repairs (all bolt on except paint for sensor bezel) paid for.

To all the absolute arrogant keyboard warriors on here shove it. The stress etc in situations like this and then to go ahead and pile it on here is sad.

A minor accident like this affected people including the elderly people in the white car unfortunately.

It was determined by ALL insurance companies I made the correct call to slow controlled as I did and do minimal
Impact to white car instead on going right or left into ditch. They judged I slowed in time etc based on Trail sights as some mentioned in this thread.

I am thankful no one was hurt and no structural or paint damage was done to Raptor. The 100 dollar bill bar literally saved the Raptor and my PPF saved what would have been paint scratch .

Glad this worked out.

Thank goodness for dashcam. Zero paint work will be needed.

Bull bar took brunt and scratched skid plates and bumper.

Going to diminished value attorney since carfax will be on this now.

Zero tickets etc for me due to dashcam footage and witnesses.

Thanks man. Only safe option was to tap the white car. 3 witnesses even stopped to tell cops what I did was only option lol.
