The guy started braking 2 seconds after the very first blinker. Which came at the exact moment she started her lane change, not ahead of the lane change. The bronco doesn't stop on a dime believe it or not.

Got to tell you the first time I watched this I thought like so many that you didn't really hit your brakes. Then I realized Sav posted this, I saw his response and rewatched. Now mine dives a lot more than his does under braking but he did stab / pump the brakes. At my age I would have hit my brakes when the other commuter came over because I have seen this plenty of times before. Sav may not have seen it as he was halfway out the window trying to get a 2dr base model going the opposite way to wave at him. (couldn't resist after all the shit you have talked on here). Anywho your Honor, members of the 6G court, upon true scrutiny of the evidence presented, I see no way that the jury can find him guilty beyond not being able to anticipate traffic in a situation where people do dumb shit.

Got lucky as well last week. Fellow was in the left turning lane and decided he wanted to go straight. Ran right into my driver's side. Luckily my iag running board took the hit and not my doors which definitely would have taken the hit if the running board weren't there.

Did your collision warning or automatic emergency braking kick in at any point?
Curious as well. My Bronco has flashed a collision warning a few times, wondering in this case if it was able to anticipate anything?

You can disable the braking feature. I have. Still gives precollision warning.

BBR DOWN!

Thank goodness for dashcam. Zero paint work will be needed.

Bull bar took brunt and scratched skid plates and bumper.

Going to diminished value attorney since carfax will be on this now.

Zero tickets etc for me due to dashcam footage and witnesses.

BBR WI

Most important question... What dashcam?

He was clearly slowing down quickly, while you can’t see the nose dive, you can see the white lane markers, and they show him nailing the brakes.

This is a pretty common occurrence here in NY, so not surprised about it creeping up to CT. I think they are taught that if you (happen to) use a blinker, it automatically guarantees you the right-of-way.

While in some states, they advocate for courteously 'giving the right-of-way', it appears that they only teach 'get outta my way' here.

(No, I'm not saying that ALL NY/CT drivers are awful, just that the overabundance of terrible drivers forms an opinion that is hard to hide)

I watched this several times. As several others noted, the car that merged in unfortunately did so at the wrong time and had to slam on his brakes, but still hit the car in front, BEFORE the bronco hit. This action deprived the bronco of approximately I’d say 15 feet of critical breaking distance. There is no way the Bronco is held liable.

This is my life every day. I'm amazed at the idiots who decide it's wise to cut off a 5500 pound vehicle but I guess I see the same thing with semis. I really feel for those guys when they're caught in traffic.

Hopefully it gets fixed quickly and you get back on the road. Definitely hit that twat up for diminished value.

The fault may not be as clear cut as you think. Traffic came to a sudden stop just as the white car pulled in. This is a construction zone and most likely the right lane was closed causing traffic to move left. It could be argued you had time to slow down when the white car started to merge in. I'm not blaming you, but fault can be assigned if it is determined there was a possibility you could avoid an accident. I learned this the hard way! I was told I was partially at fault after getting hit by a red light runner. Fortunately the other drives insurance company did pay 100%, but I was worried.

The problem with dashcams is that things look much farther away then they actually are in reality.
True, but there is definitely an argument to be made and it probably will be. There was quite a bit of time elapsed when the white car first started to move over and the collision. When a lane is closed ahead it's common for those needing to change lanes to be a little aggressive or they will never get over. Honestly I think a lot of us would pull over in this situation. Nobody did anything particularly egregious and the main cause of this accident was the sudden stop of traffic just as the white car pulled over. This is your classic shit happens moment. Fortunately the damage is minor. On a side note people make too much of this Carfax thing. I had my tailgate replaced because I backed into a post. I got a trade in quote on my Base Bronco one year ago and they offered me the same MSRP I paid back in March 22. I'm not sure if its on Carfax or not, didn't want to pay just to find out.

Is this Route 9 in New Britain (looks like it)? I was the last vehicle in a chain reaction crash there years ago. Glad there wasn't much damage, airbag went off in my 10 year old F150 and the insurance company gave it one look and totaled it. I still miss that truck.
