Yep, thanks for memory jog. I didn't want to spend the 5k just for the advanced 4x4....I do love my BD, great tires, seats...
It’s over $8k now for the BD Sasquatch pkg.

Back when I ordered mine I went Big Bend because the BD was like $3500 more (even after adding locker to BB) and I also felt like I was paying for wheels/tires I didn’t want. I also like the optional tan interior on Big Bend a lot more than the random blue accents they put in the BD (not sure if they still do that). I ended up spending about the same amount of money in the end, but the $3000ish I saved got me Badlands takeoff wheels/tires, full ford skid plates, both metal front/rear bumpers, a base grill with factory bronze letters, the performance tune, and Sasquatch Bilstein shocks…. so if you put in a little effort in you can end up getting something that leans closer to a Badlands for about the same price as a BD if you go with BB at start.

@idontknow, your thought process was a lot like mine when I ordered my BB a few weeks ago. I'm a long time Miata owner and enthusiast (have had 3 since 1990), but age has made them harder to get in and out of comfortably. I was excited about getting a Bronco in 2021 until dealer markups and Ford's supply chain problems made the excitement fade. Then my wife bought a HE Bronco Sport this year, we went to Off-Roadeo in Texas a month ago, and I started looking at Broncos again when we got back. This will be my daily driver, with light off-roading and no rock crawling. My top criteria was the MT. A 2 door MT Big Bend with a Mid package includes everything I wanted in a 4x4 Miata. This is my option list:
  • Big Bend 2 door
  • Eruption Green
  • MT 4.46 + rear locker (B&P doesn't display the locker cost when you select it, but does add $495 to the MSRP total. That's the cause of some confusion, I think.)
  • Sandstone interior (B&P doesn't show this as an option, but it is available for 2024 build 2)
  • Mid package
  • Trailer tow package
  • Signature LED
I plan on upgrading the tires to 285/70 R17 on either the OEM BB wheels (which I think look great) or Ford Performance bronze phone dials (which look great on EG.) I'm not sure which tires yet; that will probably depend on takeoff availability. That's probably about the extent of my mods for now. But I won't rule out an exhaust or the Procal 2.3 tune yet.

My long story short is I currently have a 2017 Mazda Miata I am looking to part ways with. Have had some back problems that have made it harder to get in and out of more recently.

I looked at broncos when they first came out but availability was so out of wack I decided to hold off. I’m looking at doing something before winter now. I noticed ford has changed a lot with the packages and there seems to be a much smaller gap between these two trims now.

This will be a daily driver and very light off-roading. No rock crawling plans.

I was originally looking at the black diamond for the marine grade vinyl seats. But now those are standard on the big bend.

It looks like the mid grade package is no longer available on the black diamond with a M/T (at least according to the build and price) But it is available on the Big Bend with M/T

So I’d be putting the heavy duty modular bumper on both so the standard bumper has no bearing on which one I pic.

Not doing Sasquatch on either and would add rear locker to the bend.

It’s a decent monthly difference between the two and as far as I can tell I’m only losing out on the washout floor on the black diamond? Is there something else I’d be missing or should consider?

edit *
Yes I am planning to get the auxiliary switches from the factory. I like that the wiring is already ran. Forgot to mention that.

my only must have out of the mid package really was the heated seats because I live in Minnesota. I just found out the ford dealership here can install that for 600 which really negates that need now.

for the axel u was gonna do the 4.46. 4.7 requires Sasquatch. Not concerned about gas mileage….i know what I’m getting myself into in that regard for this vehicle 😂

I am leaning towards a 2 door bronco vs the 4 door.

Does the blackdiamond still come with the molle seats? Did they change this on the Big Bend. That is another thing I am interested in as I have a bunch of molle bags I wanted to use.

I appreciate any input. Thanks!
I have the 2 door Big Bend and am very happy with it. Small turning radius is really nice and kind of foreign to me after driving trucks for so long - like that! For me the cloth seats were what I really wanted... I also got the electronics update, automatic, modular bumper, and the Ford floor mats. Somewhere in those packages the heated seats were included and also leather steering wheel cover - kind of nice.

After the off rodeo, I kind of wish I got the rear lockers but so far the 2 times I need 4WD on the beach and in the snow I was fine without it (suspect if I was in more rugged terrain, the lockers would be nice).

Also with the 2 door, it comes with a beefy fuel tank protection plate.

As for the Aux switches, I opted to not get them as I wanted a sunglasses holder. For the fog lights I installed, I put a round switch that came with them in the center console next to the power ports. Looks pretty good. I also put in the factory alarm, rear floor mat from Ford, IAG mud flaps, and a decent steel nerf bar made of finest chinesium bought off of Amazon.

Overall very happy with my ride! Support for all of the mods I have done from those on this forum has been truly awesome!

If ya want a 2dr manual (you never said) there seems to be about $4k difference and I don’t see it…I would get the big bend and add those extra things you may want from the aftermarket…but you do you…welcome and party on!
This is what I did, kinda, I did get the BB Auto. Added bumpers, tires and skids to build it up to BD standards. I wanted carpet, cloth seats and actually liked the BB wheels and grille best. But since both now come with rubber floors and vinyl seats and you don't like the BB wheels and grille you the BD would get you what you want and save alot of work.

Not a bad way to go, unless you want the BD gearing.

Right, which might come back to bite me. Some day I might want to add a front locker which is unobtainable (well Eaton has something..) for the 4.27 I have but would be readily available in 4.46 of the BD

That’s the biggest downside to the 4.27, there is no way to source a M210 4.27. I have a 4.7 M210, and rear 4.7 gears... I guess it is time to swap them out.

I have a 2dr 2.3 Big Bend HT with mid-package, and I’m very happen with it. No rock crawlin here! I added running boards after the fact on my own.

I have the 2 door Big Bend with the rear lockers pkg really like the performance of the car with the 4.27 gearing. No regrets over the BD.
