Base Model Rear Locking Differential

**Factory 3.73 gear equipped Broncos feature a welded ring gear/differential and will require differential replacement.

Ohh now this is intriguing. How involved is an install for something like this?

I too am interested in a Detroit TrueTrack LSD. Anyone have one installed? I realize having a welded ring and pinion means I'll need to replace with a M220 JL ring and pinion, but how much harder does that make the job? Anyone have a ballpark labor cost to expect for the job?

Ford racing sells the ring and pinion as well as the install kit.
What I don’t see available is the carrier from ford. Little bit strange.
I’m more interested in knowing that an m220 carrier from another supplier would be the same. I would think so but I’m not willing to be the Guinea pig.

labor would be the same ish as most ring and pinion installs. Id check a mustang or jeep forum where something like that is old hat.

Not sure how long ago, but I found it when I was reading about the Ford Warn Winch pricing special a few weeks ago. All required parts are listed with the differential for install, as well!!

You could get this from Spicer all along. I've had one sitting in my garage for a few months waiting on me to figure out what I want to do with it.

Here are the part numbers for ... everything stock in the FDU and rear axle - m190, m210 and m220

That said - good find on seeing it on Ford's site now. Spicer stuff is sometimes hard to find and often has long lead times. If Ford has it in their inventory as well that's at least another channel that can have stock (and you can blow Ford Pass points on).

I still don't know if this ends up being much cheaper than buying the entire rear end (which has been available from Ford Performance all along, about $2k). If you happen to have a differential shop in your garage (or know someone who does) - maybe. You'll be about $1k in parts alone just for a re-gear if you have a non-locker, and if you have to pay for labor on top of that, not sure it's gonna save you any money.

The two scenarios:

Drop rear end, install new rear end - done. Sell old rear end for some beer money or donate to science, or keep in the shed just in case you BMB your rear end and need something to get around with.

Drop rear end, crack open diff. Re-gear. Shim and re-shim (repeat as needed). Button up diff. Install rear end - done. Have an old carrier with welded gear on it you can use as a cool paper weight or coffee table art.

Rear differential locker is the only option I'd like to have available for my base model. It doesn't look like Ford is offering it for the Base model. Because the rear locker will be electronic and it looks like the base uses the same differential as other models, do you think Ford will off an aftermarket option for the electronics to convert to a locking differential? Any thoughts?

I have a m220 e locker and axles (you need both) I'll sell you for $200.
