Audio warranty voided

The Ford service shop is telling me that the ACM needs replacement and is no longer under warranty because I installed an amp and speakers. They're claiming the trouble codes indicate that my installation caused the issues. (Here's the details of that thread, Speaker Static...post there if you have feedback about the audio issue)

I understand it is possible, but honestly don't feel like I caused it. At this point, anyone who has an issue with their ACM and installed an amp will not have coverage. Good luck.

I had a similar issue on my 2013 Focus. Hooked up an amp to the stock system... sounded great for a day... next day one of my channels just had this horrible humming/hissing noise. Bought a replacement ACM. Installed it and tested it, sounded great. Next time I drove it to work it made the same humming/hissing noise. Odd.

An entire weekend of troubleshooting later and I found out that my amp was pushing voltage up to the ACM. Good job amp—well done. At that point I was short on money so I just returned the amp and used the money from the return to buy yet another ACM. Still works great to this day.

Not saying that you had the same issue I had, you could be absolutely correct. But since your aftermarket component connects directly to the factory unit... it's pretty easy for Ford to say it isn't their issue.

Thanks, I'm going to take it into the audio shop where I bought the amp for them to test the amp... But I did test it without the amp connected and behavior was the same. Speaker output was poor with static

I wired up a an alarm once to one of my newer cars and I was real nervous about something like this. So I installed diodes (?) In all the wires so that voltage could only go one way. My thinking was that if my aftermarket alarm shorted out or did anything funky it couldn't feed back to the car harness.

I don't know if something like this can be done with an amp, but if you put something in your signal wires I would almost think that one could argue that it would be impossible.

Of course I also know that there's ohms and resistance and things like that so when you tap off of wires you are changing the overall flow in the system.

Um, yeah. No way in hell they're going to warranty that after you hooked up an amp. Keep that in mind for all mods you do in the future.

That would similar to adding gears and lockers and trying to get the manufacture to warranty your broken axle shafts.

That sucks, I've had LOC converters on my rear channels of my Focus for a decade without any issues.

Did they diagnose and tell you the specific cause of the failure? Did you use an adapter harness or tap directly into factory wires? Have you contacted the company that makes the amp to try and find out if their equip may have caused? Shoot me your VIN, wanna look at the codes in VHR.

Unfortunately, once its in the system, I believe all dealers know it has been rejected for warranty work.

Yeah that sucks op should have none better or checked with ford first before adding a amp
