Yes! It drives me crazy when I see that in photos/videos. It isn't discernible in person, only the way it reflects light on camera. It was due to a slight texture difference, and was one of the bigger things ADV addressed on their early proto-tops.

No alignment/fitment issues, top fit like a glove. But there is a small gap difference on one section of this top, which you can actually see in the same photo. That was caused by the machining ADV was using early on, due to an improper injection of the composite material or something along those lines... All of this has since been resolved in one of the (probably hundreds of) iterations the top has gone through. John at ADV is one picky dude, that much I could tell even from the one interaction we had in person. Definitely takes pride in his QC

Cool story. Are you still testing it for John? Are the bad color and texture contrast differences on the ADV "proto-top" the same or have they gotten worse?

If you still had an order for an ADV hardtop, it might be helpful for you to file a police report for fraud. Also a complaint with the California AGs office.

What ADV has done is textbook fraud, whether they intended to or not. They took people’s money with the promise to deliver a product. They strung people along with what now appears to be clearly false statements and promises. Now they are saying “sorry, you’re not getting your top, and we’re not refunding your money.”

They also appear to be trying to continue as a business. That’s not how it works. If they have the funds, they should refund people. If they don’t, they are insolvent and should file for bankruptcy’ or be forced into bankruptcy before they have a chance to siphon more assets out of the company.

APG's response brings up a few questions.

1. So APG had no idea how many orders ADV accepted but they saw that ADV was able to pay those invoices sent by APG totaling 4.4M?

2. If APG is aware ADV collected 8.6M, they should also be aware they collected 4.4M for hardtop development. Where are those funds APG received?

3. How did APG always intend to sell directly to its customer if ADV was granted distributorship rights to the product?

I came here to ask very similar questions. APG seems to be leaving some extremely important details out. Those details may indicate shared culpability if ever revealed. For a company with their finger on the pulse of the industry(APG) who entered into a mutual agreement with a competitor, a relatively local company, and one with a history of poor business practices, to now plead ignorance is laughable imo. ADV is obviously responsible for their portion of this mess but APG may have exploited an opportunity here as well…allegedly.

Eh... you don't make lawsuits like this public unless you are headed towards bankruptcy. If they had any intention on refunding preorders and trying to continue as a business, they would have keep this lawsuit private while they attempt to extract money from APG.

But they didn't, which means either they have the worse legal representation of all time. Or they're headed towards bankruptcy anyway... so screw it—let's try to drag down our old business partner with us.

Which leads me to the question I would have for @heyjay seeing how you have paid the piper for a top of your own, are you out the 7K???? have you received a monetary refund??? Or maybe one of the tops APG has produced, like Lite Brite???? Is it the most wonderful, exquisite, durable top you have ever seen???


Seeing how you were an "insider" I'm sure John "let you in" on what was going on. If so you didn't back out and get you money back???

This whole thing is crazy! I didn’t have any confidence ADV would ever deliver, hence my switch to Anderson, but I did not see the APG twist coming.

Having been to APG and gotten services done with them I still give them the benefit of the doubt. (I am still eyeing a mid runner kit in the future once it’s time for 37s). George has been great to me and I have seen the quality of their products up close. I know everyone won’t feel that way just speaking for myself and my personal experience.

Guess we’ll have to see how this plays out in court and I hope justice is served
