Wow, a 60?!!!

Correct me if I’m off; Raptor is 50 at back and a 44 up front. Normal Bronco is 44 at back and a 30 up front.

Will you still run IFS up front? And what size?
It's not the D60 you think...it's a hybrid they made for 6G. I am a big fan of SFA, but after playing around w/6g IFS, I am impressed, and I'm investing serious $ in a FDU and CVs, so looks like I am officially and IFS man now! Stock Squatch FDU's mechanical limit is 4.70, so you gotta go up to the "ultimate" FDU...not sure what they changed, but @BigMeatsBronco has one.

There‘s been talk of the issues getting the HOSS rack to program properly in a non-WildTrak. Well, it’s not talk, it’s a fact. Think there is supposed to be an update to fix the coding issue, but I personally am just fuzzy on that detail. Someone like Bmadda knows much more than I on this topic.

I’m doing some exploratory research because switching out the rack in roughly 3 or 4 years will be my first serious mod to my BadSquatch. I’m fine with stock for now, but before I rip out the suspension and upgrade things, the rack and axles are my first order of business.

There was something about the motor components making it tricky, but not impossible. Heck, the 74Weld CEO just did it in the video, but he’s a pretty damn good engineer. Nothing a good mechanic can’t figure out, but it has to be someone who cares about their work and has the tools, etc, so it’s a difficult DIY, but doable with some skill and patience which I’m short on both! :ROFLMAO:

I’ve read the mechanical exploits of the two of you guys for some time and you’re much further along with this knowledge than I am.

Wish portals weren’t so pricey since they don’t change geometry and would be great for 37s.

Anyway, also saw Bubba @Exodus4x4 install this rack and wasn’t sure if he lifted that motor or did something else. This video was more of a walkthrough, whereas Exodus, at the time, was more informing what was being developed. Both vids were an education and very hopeful.
Hoss 3.0 is an easy swap, it's pretty much figured out. The hard part is "the rack" has to be plugged into a bronco to program it.

BigMeats is the person who made this swap possible, everyone mentioned is thread piggy backing off him. A few of us have just documented a few things for the sake of progress.

With a local shop becoming a 74Weld dealer I will send people there way.

How much for the 60?
$6559 for the assy, plus you need a driveshaft built for it which they quoted me $600. Then add FDU and CVs...and well? It's pricey! Upshot is that a complete squatch driveline will be hitting the open market soon, and i'm pretty sure that'll offset some cost! (but knowing me, I will not want to part w/spares!)

Wow, always good to have extra parts never hurts.

Since I'm in Texas, I'll probably have @Exodus4x4 do a HOSS 3.0 swap and portals next year. Go to 37's and probably re-gear to stay around 4.7-5.

Give them a call? I am staying out of the business end, my employer would have a seizure if I did any side work.

Cool video. Quin is a cool dude. For those following along with this whole steering rack saga. When Quin explains about the fail points he also explains the situation that cause those point to fail. Just pointing out some things to watch how you drive your Bronc and on how to prolong the life of your stocker until you can afford the upgrade. Just gotta wheel it a bit gingerly until the upgrade. It's a Bronco don't drive it like a Jeep. :ROFLMAO: Honestly I have seen those situations he described break a wheel joint in a SFA.

It's a lot of Murphy's Law.

Wheel on HORSEMEN!!!!!!!! 😁
I've been hunting down all failure videos I can to see what driving style or situations cause it to avoid it myself.

Hard to find a video depicting the exact scenario. Most videos you find you just see the rocks and hear snap.

Here is a video of a Bronc breaking it on a log obstacle.

Like Quinn stated, If you get one wheel in between two rocks and try to make the steering work against itself to climb those rocks. This will put a lot of pressure on the rack itself causing it to fail

No bouncing. Driving smooth is the key. Slow and steady wins the race here.
