4A and the Off-Road status screen

I understand that the 4A transfer case will provide power to the front axle on demand or as needed. Is that reflected in the off-road status screen? When I use 4A the off-road status screen always shows power to the front axle. Is that normal? Should I expect to see status screen actually show when power is sent to the front axle and when it's not? When I use 4A it always feels as though the front axle is engaged. I never get the sense that the front axle power has been cut.

4A will always show connected to all 4 on the big center screen. You can get a better idea of actual engagement with the Power Distribution menu in the instrument cluster MyView thing, which will show when the front is engaged and how much of your power you're putting down.

As stated the Power Distribution menu has like an old school Eq look, where it shows how much the front is using indicated in green, going up and down.

As for the steering feeling, are you in a GOAT mode that put it in 4A, like sport? or just hit the button?

Sport changes the steering feel to be tighter.

I feel 4A gives you a sport mode feel, even in normal. I really only use 4A for heavy rain driving, and snow.

The Power Distribution screen is exactly what I needed. Thanks for that insight. I drove around a little this morning in 4A and noticed that it provides power to the front wheels more than I would have expected, especially at low speed. It definitely dropped the front power while cruising at 65.

I have the 8" center screen but I don't (think) I get any indication of the powertrain status on the 'big center screen'. ('22 Black Diamond 7MT) Am I missing something? When I did the Bronco Off-Roadeo two years ago, the Badlands I drove had a larger display of the off-road status. All I can get is the small display on th 'MyView' screen beside the tachometer, is there some other/better screens that I'm not finding? Thanks!

there is a power distribution screen available in the dash display. If you don't see it you'll need to navigate to the myview screen and change the display. there are more screens available than what you can display. You'll need to pick and chose the ones you want see.

Yeah there’s a common misconception that 4A only sends power to the front in situations when it senses slip, but it’s actually quite the opposite. Even normal acceleration in most cases it is sending some amount of power to the front.
You can be going 80 mph and go WOT and it can split it to, or close to, 50/50.

Try your GOAT mode wheel - some offroad modes will shrink the main dash stuff to make the offroad stuff bigger. I find it annoying because I really want to see my revs, but that sounds like what you're talking about.
Not sure if there is a way to do it outside of GOAT.

As @Ducati1098 points out, the 4A system is not a "detect wheel slippage then engage" system. It's more of a "Rally" AWD system. I have a manual, thus it disengages whenever I shift (i.e. depress the clutch), but it is sending some amount of torque to the front axle in gears 1-3 almost all the time, most of the time in 4th, and only very part time in 5 & 6th.

I can even hit a fast sweeper in 4th or 5th, and it will re-engage the front axle to 'pull you through the turn', just like a rally car

Some folks don't like the torque steer they feel, even (mistakenly) insisting it is drive-line wind up or "binding" (it's not), but don't worry about it the system is designed for it. Enjoy 4A, aka "Subaru mode"!

That doesn't look like "rally conditions" to me. It also looks like it's...sensing the road conditions.

If it is "sensing" and thus reacting to conditions, it is a relatively minor part of its programing. Both by observing the "power distribution" gauge and by seat-of-the pants, for example on road torque steer (and traction over bumps) as well as off road (where I use it regularly), it is obvious it is mostly a proactive system in that it is distributing power based on gear, throttle position, and steering angle whether there is wheel slippage or not. It won't distribute torque to the front axle for example no matter how much your spinning rears. It engages in the lower gears no matter what (how much depending upon steering angle), whether you are gently moving out in a high traction situation or on it hard in a low traction (e.g. sand).

So now I'm going to try it out off road. The only problem I can see is that when it's going to be showing anything interesting, I should probably have my attention placed somewhere else than on what the screen is showing.

Yes it is better to try to watch it on road - 4A behaves the same either way as it is a proactive, not a reactive system.

Off road it is simply going to show even torque distribution in lower gears, unless you're at highish steering angles where it will back off the front axle...
