When I was researching 4WD cars late last year, my understanding was that you can switch into 4H when you hit snow, but you have to go back to 2H once you're on bare pavement again. This could be annoying on patchy roads. The auto 4WD system is more like AWD, from what I understand, so it won't have to be actively managed and will keep itself in 2H when its not needed.

I'm in the upper peninsula so not only does it get snowy as hell here in general, in some storms you'll have 6+ inches at higher elevations slightly inland with a light dusting closer to the lake. That's the type of situation where I just want to put it in 4A and not have to think about it.

I'd say if there's tons and tons of Subarus in your area of the mitten, like there are up here, maybe think about getting auto 4WD. If you're in the lower half of the lower peninsula you're probably fine without it.
I appreciate the reply. I'm in SE MI (Metro Detroit area) and luckily we don't get near the snowfall that you do in the UP. Not seeing a ton of Subaru's around my area of the state and after doing some more reading I agree I can probably get by without 4A but it would be nice to have though.

Just my two cents living in another very snowy climate (Quebec): you don't need 4A. I had similar thoughts, but I have to say my Big Bend did great this winter and I often find that the switching between 2H and 4H is not an annoyance at all. I drove both country and city, both hilly and by the water, for more context.

One advantage of the automatic that isn't to be overlooked is the remote start. My BB lives outside, and I will say that on the freezing mornings, being able to walk into a warm car with the heated seats on, is huge. Also from what I hear, the heated steering wheel is a bit lackluster. I will say, I never once said to myself "I wish I had the heated wheel," given how the cabin heats up with remote start. The heated seats could bake a potato 😂

FYI, I also had my heart set on a manual, but ended up getting a great deal on an out of province BB automatic they shipped in during Employee Pricing last year (and looks like my originally planned manual build likely would not have gotten scheduled either...). The base sound system (as an audiophile) is not as bad as some people describe. I will upgrade at some point, but for now, it does the job just fine.

All this to say, given your original post, your sweet spot may be to shop around for a '24 BD automatic with mid package. You get pretty much all the features which are important to you, and can put some of the (likely significant) savings into a truly great sound system (better than the B&O that you get with Lux). Getting someone else to do the install for you. Another option might be a '24 OBX with Lux, since if I recall correctly, all trims had washout flooring in '24. Just means skipping out on 4A in both cases, which as I said, to me is a nice to have, and not as needed as one might think. Hope this helps!
Thanks for posting your insights and experience in a snowy climate without having (or needing) 4A. This helps put my mind at ease that if I do decide to get a Bronco I'm positive I can live without 4A:)

I think the thread about Ford’s unannounced switch to a new 2.3 liter direct injection engine in 2025 is the source of the 7MT delays. https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/threads/2024-vs-2025-2-3l-changes.111219/unread

Apparently a 2025 Mustang with the 2.3 no longer has the MT option. I’m guessing that Ford has some engineering that needs to be resolved before they build 2025 Broncos with the 7MT.
That sucks. I had no idea they were changing things up and now we have to work through the bugs if we ever get the damn thing.

I agree it's for sure a worthwhile option but it really sucks that Ford doesn't offer it on all the models. If I do decide on a Bronco I really want to keep the price as low as possible.

From Ford... the issue is that the build capacity for the MT is around 3%. That means if they have 5000 orders (just an example) then of those, only 150 MTs will be built for that build week. So basically autos have priority on the line.

I would've hoped that Ford offered the 2.3 with an automatic but it has never happened.
I was at Nevada OffRoadeo last Friday, April 21. I drove a Badlands 2.3 with automatic. OffRoadeo doesn't have any manual transmission Broncos.

In certain years they offered they 2.3 with an automatic or manual and others they didn't. It was also model specific. In 2021 you could only get Badlands with a manual if you got the 2.3.

They quit offering MT’s in the off rodeo’s because people would burn up the clutches.

The Bronco is extremely easy to drive yet I witnessed someone bounce one down the lane at a dealership. Obvious to both me and the salesman that it looked to be their first time driving a manual.

Both my kids learned to drive on a manual back in the 90’s. They both have driven my Bronco and it was like they drove it forever so it isn’t because of lack of recent experience.

Just popping in after seeing people discuss bailing on their orders to get an automatic. Ultimately a good deal is a good deal, and as long as you're happy with your vehicle that's all that matters.

That being said.....

I bailed on my 25 order - my heart was set on a 2d race red HE with the 7MT - I am so glad every day that I didn't get the auto. I love dailying a manual again, even in Boston traffic. This is a great transmission for this kind of vehicle. It's not a Miata but I find it very engaging and not at all truck-like. I love it. I believe the MT issues were fixed but even if I have to do a warranty claim in a couple years, it's worth it in my book.

If you have even an inkling of a desire to get the MT, do it - don't settle. Wait for the 25 or bail to a 24. Don't let a few months wait or a creeping doubt deprive you of years of enjoyment. This may be our last chance to own a new MT vehicle.

Just my $0.02. Fingers crossed you guys get your Broncos soon and that you love them!

If I was teaching someone to drive, they'd learn on a manual. But not everyone has that option. When I first got my license, Arizona would put a restriction on it "Automatic transmission only" if you took your driving test with an automatic.

I ordered my Badlands with a manual, but after doing the Off Roadeo if I had to do it over, I'd order an automatic. It makes crawling over rocks in a stream bed easier. I ordered a manual for steep (40% slope) descents. Last time I drove a 4X4 with an automatic, it had next to no engine braking. Put the Bronco automatic in M1 and I think you'll have all the engine braking you'll need. I tried it on one of the hills at Off Roadeo.

I agree with you - it's nice to have, but definitely not a ~must have~... unless I were buying a Bronco for my wife or kid.

Seems the 4A crowd have more issues with their transfer cases than the part time folks too.
