Hey everyone,

I’m having a really frustrating issue with my 2.7L Wildtrak Bronco and could use some advice or insights from the community. My Bronco has been bogging down really badly whenever I accelerate, and it’s making driving a nightmare.

Here’s what’s happening:
  • Whenever I press the gas pedal to accelerate, the engine bogs down significantly—it feels like it’s struggling to get power.
  • The issue is most noticeable when I’m trying to pick up speed or merge onto highways.
  • It doesn’t seem to matter if the engine is cold or warmed up—it happens either way.
  • No warning lights are showing up on the dash, which makes it even harder to diagnose.

I would suspect a stuck waste gate on a turbo

Your traction control might be kicking in. My 2.7 BL does the same thing at times. Turn off the nanny and see if it continues

Could it just be downshifting & turbo lag you are feeling? Is it any better if you put it in sport mode? What is the max PSI you are seeing under full throttle while merging onto a highway or similar?

My first thought this is a classic no fuel condition.
I’d think check fuel pressure, possible clogged fuel filter, injectors, fuel pump.
Damn newfangled technology and its issues might prove otherwise.
I’m interested in where this leads.

Most obvious things would throw a check engine light if it was actually running that poorly.
Bring it to someone that can actually look at the vehicle and diagnose it. Nobody on here is going to be able to.

How much boost are you making? What happens when you floor it and hold it there? Have you tried Sport mode?

When I punch it from a stop, it accelerates sharply.
If I punch it while rolling, there is a significant hesitation. Not truly a bog.

You aren't giving nearly enough information for someone to help. I'm not sure what you were driving before, but if you had a manual shift naturally aspirated car, there are no throttle response delays. With a 10-speed automatic with turbos, you have to wait 3 seconds before your car can downshift 3 gears and spool up at least one turbo. It's brutally slow and sometimes unsafe.

I don't know why anybody "wants" a car with turbos, other than better gas mileage for the same power. Combining turbos with automatic transmissions further disconnects the driver from the road. The driving experience of a naturally aspirated engine is so much better.

if you're looking for advice, to initially troubleshoot before taking to a mechanic, more info is certainly needed. Speed before the punch, tranny gear, rpms, boost pressure before / during / after, video would be cool if it can be done safely. How long does it "bog" before gaining RPM presumably after several downshifts, as someone said it may just be lag / shift especially if we're talking a second or so. again, video could help. But without any engine codes, big stuff should certainly be ruled out.

Hopefully these videos are going to help identify this issue I’m having, listen closely and you’ll kinda hear the lag sounds like a shitty rev limiter

You could probably see how shaky it gets

points:
Problem becomes worse when I put to sport mode

Getting a max of 56 kpa on boost which is about 8 psi if I’m not mistaken

Did you do anything with the turbo blow off valve? I can hear it. Also, are you intentionally in manual mode in the first 2 videos? I assume the phone shaking is from the bucking of the bronco :)

That sounds like a blow off valve is opening dumping your boost while you're accelerating. Have you added any aftermarket "performance" accessories?

If not take it to your dealer and let them figure it out.

Sounds and looks like it’s cutting the throttle. Almost similar to traction control, but without it actually showing traction control even activating.

We had a similar issue with our expedition that went undiagnosed for at least a year because it wouldn’t throw a code and didn’t always happen. When it finally got bad enough we got a check engine light but it would be gone the next time we started the vehicle. They were finally able to diagnose and replace a VCT solenoid. It was also jerky like your videos and the boost gauge would max out but it seemed bogged down. When the rpms got up past 3k it finally started accelerating. Everything has been good since.
