The registration for my old '75 Pontiac showed that the original price was $5858. Should have kept it, they go for 4-5x that now, and 20x more than the $1600 I sold it for. *cry*

Great trip down memory lane, but would you pay 31k for a "new" '73 Bronco vs. 38k for a new '24 Bronco if given the choice? A 270 horse engine, standard A/C, roll bar, ABS, safety gizmo's, an (awful) stereo, full seating, etc. A new Bronco (or Wrangler) is actually a pretty fair deal in comparison. I never owned an early Bronco, but had a few early CJ-5 & 7's. Lot's of fun but quite the penalty box for everyday driving.

You haven't shopped EB's recently have you? If and that's a big IF you find one for $31k you're going to at least match that much restoring it!

The LH Remote Control Mirror on that option list is the most notable. Almost impossible to find parts for those, since so few were ordered and the aftermarket does not support them.

Yes. It was a mechanical linkage from mirror control on the inside to the mirror on the outside. I have never seen something like this anywhere else.

One thing you can be assured of... little plastic and the fenders and hood were probably twice as thick.

And... hardly any electronics to worry about.

But then again... out here in Northern California where the government likes to tax gas engines (i.e. 6-7 summer gas)... that 10 MPG would be a though sell. My 22 2Dr V6/auto gets 22-24 on nice highway days.

I had an 83 K5 Blazer I bought around 98 or so when I was 17ish that still had the window sticker in the glove box. It was in really good condition, like new really. Paid $3,500 for it. It was pretty well loaded with 305/5.0 in it and stickered for around $14k if I remember correctly. Thinking about it now that was a hell of a deal and if I'd have held on to and kept it in good condition it would be worth a lot of money now. Actually, scratch that, I think I sold it for $5k and then bought it back for $5k a year later and then was t-boned by a Wagoneer. It probably ended up in a salvage yard.

I got a lot of good deals in the late 90s on old iron. A 78 Chevy shortbed stepside 2WD for $3,500, 65 Chevy SWB 4WD for $3,500, an 84 Silverado short stepside 4WD for $4,500, a 78 Trans Am for $3,500, 65 Mustang for $4k, and others. Everyone of them was in good condition with new or like new paint and good engine/transmission, etc... I put fresh engines and transmissions in a few but that was cheap too. Any one of those would be worth good money today.

At 60,000 miles they were considered 'worn out' and at 80,000 miles people would say they aren't worth fixing. People who managed to get one to last to 100,000 would brag about it to their friends. These days a car is considered junk if it can't be fully reliable at 150,000 miles and bragging rights don't start until 250,000 miles. Cars are a lot more durable now.

True. The engine needed to be replaced after about 10 years. It through a rod through the block I think. That replacement engine then also needed to be replaced at some point and finally the Bronco was totaled in a crash in the late 90's.
