Here’s how the conversation went with my installer, long post-sorry;
SZP: Just started working on the bronco. Tried taking the cv axle nut off. It had so much built up rust it ate the top end of the post.
ME: Why?
SZP: I have no idea. It threaded off perfectly fine up until the end and destroyed itself
ME: Dang. Threads look bad. Replace?
SZP: I seen it happen on Chevys never a bronco. I’ve Hurd horror stories though. No the whole axle has to be replaced.
ME: whaaat!
Does that qualify for warranty?
Do I need to take it to ford Or can u take care of it?
SZP: It might with ford but you can’t drive it like that I would have to take the cv off and run it over there.
ME: Ok $$$?
Should we upgrade?
SZP: I mean if it’s here why not haha. I’ll have to look at prices
ME: Ok but can we use the warranty to upgrade through ford?
SZP: I’m not completely sure. That might be a ford question. I know if it’s in warranty with ford they will replace the cv axle but they might ask a few questions haha
ME: Such as? Would it help if I called them? What would I tell them? why it rusted?
SZP: I would call them. Let me them know you had maintenance done to your bronco. When going to back off the cv axle nut the nut caught a patch of rust and ate the threads
ME: And if they ask where I was having it done?
And what maintenance was being done that they weren’t doing it?
And was that front or rear axle?
SZP: Driver side front cv axle
Replacing oe parts with aftermarket
I can get one for $300
ME: Same or upgrade?
Will they take mine in exchange?
SZP: Same. Oe spec. I don’t think so. That was autozone
I have not called ford yet
ME: I’ll wait to hear back from you
I still have warranty + extended
SZP: Okay. Give me a few. Currently building your arms haha
CALLED DEALERSHIP
Was told that warranty doesn’t cover rusted parts and that’s that. Even though I take it to them for regular service.
