I’m confused.
I just got a 2026 Bronco Badlands with the 2.7ltr V6. It’s very much the same as the 2022 WildTrak 2.7 I had, but Ford seems to be iterating.

I choose to complete my first oil change at 1045 miles. Oil was gross but what really had me miffed was the difference between the old oil filter and the FoMoCo replacement I got from the dealer. The factory filter has plastic caps on each end, while the replacements I am getting do not. See for yourselves in the photos below.

I’m paranoid (OCD) that I’m running the wrong filter. It doesn’t seem like anything about this has been posted yet… Has anyone got some guidance or experience on this.

Totally normal. The replacement filters from motorcraft don't have the black end caps on them anymore.

Why are they there from the factory?
Is there a known purpose for the difference?

The factory filter is an FL2062 while the newest filter is a FL2062A. Nothing really to be concerned about regarding the differences, I believe the A variant is supposed to be a better built filter anyways. The other one with black caps is probably cheaper overall for that reason and why the factory would use it.

Not just 2.7's, factory filters have been different than replacements for as long as I can remember, we have to have different filter wrenches for the factory filters on the cannister types since they have different ends on the case.

Batteries are also different from factory to replacement. Factory has black labels replacements have colored. Prior to AGM, replacements had the green "eye" to tell condition, factory batteries didn't.

I don't know why, always had a suspicion it was so they could tell if they'd been replaced. Spark plugs that had a dot of paint on the end were factory, was an easy way to tell for decades, newer replacement Motorcraft plugs now have that dot so that's out the window.

I don't like these so called cartridge filters, the spin on type is superior in my opinion. You pay more for just the filter media than the entire canister. We can thank the Europeans for this! Crazy what they come up with to save the planet.

Going to the dealer for oil filters must cost a fortune. I've been using Walmart brand or Fram for decades and run hundreds of thousands of miles. One time I went to the dealer to get a cabin air filter. They wanted $55.00 (for the part not installed) and that was 15 years ago. I said no thanks and walked out.

Opinions are like A** Holes everyone has 1.I think the canister filter is so much easier + mess free than the old style spin ons that are a horizontal mount. Spend more time on clean up with Mustang ,Edge + F150 than the rest of the oil change with the spin ons.My 2.7 oil after 1st change seems to stay much cleaner but maybe that is oil brand[AMSOIL vs factory].Can always get a 2.3 if you want spin on.

The factory installed probably Mahle (they likely make the housing).
The service replacement perhaps Mann+Hummel.

I like that the filter is top mounted, so I can change it easily.
Only thing I don't like is the tiny little O-ring on the post. I always struggle with replacing it.

Rock Auto for Motorcraft filters - $8.65 each. I order like 3 or 4 at a time.

I sure do miss crawling under the truck fighting with some stuck spin on filter in some awkward position while a mess of oil gets all over.
