Yeah gonna agree with a lot of the guys above. That's an absolutely terrible weld. I haven't welded in a few years but I NEVER let a weld like that go...I never MADE a weld like that, and I'm not an expert welder.

They SHOULD just replace the bumper...or if it's a modular, at least that component of it because that should be available.

I have made a weld like that. We moved and when I finally set the welder up at the new house I was getting welds like that because I had the polarity wrong (flux core MIG).

Yeah but I'll bet it was probably your first weld after setting it up there, and I'll bet you weren't satisfied with them until you fixed it.

This picture? That shouldn't have left the plant it was manufactured at. QC should have thrown that out.

Dealer submitted it to ford for approval. Dealer agreed it’s rusting . He is figuring out parts already so I assume he thinks it will go through. 1-3 days to see what ford says

Yeah, I figured it out pretty fast. I'm not sure how these bumpers are being welded, but I doubt it's with flux core wire.

It's not the rust that is the problem. It's the fact you can almost stick a finger into the gaps in their weld joint. Good Lord, that is horrible.

Dealer agreed it's rusting, but didn't agree that the weld joint shouldn't be filled with holes? Wow. Just WOW.

Everyone has their own journey. If this was my Bronco I’d rattle can it and move on. IMPO…it’s just not worth the time and hassle of dealing with the local Ford dealer. It’s not like that’s a weight bearing weld, it’s just the outer wing right?

not sure if it’s good or bad sign

If I were the dealer I'd just grind that out, touch up the weld if needed and throw some paint on it. It would look as good (and be) as new and cost almost nothing, and you'd be a happy customer.

The Mod bumper is also available piece by piece in the Ford system - they could just replace that single piece - would take an hour or two and whatever the piece costs... $250 or whatever.

I really can't believe the dealer is waffling over something so simple to fix... but then again, I guess I really can, unfortunately.

Seems like you would want to keep the folks who are paying $100k+ for vehicles happy so they keep buying them from you.

Do dealerships even have welders on staff or welding machines on the premises?

Yes, at least all dealerships I’ve ever worked at do. We don’t have specific welders on staff, but more than a few guys in the shop know how to weld.

Well, does seem like a simple fix to grind and re-weld the bumper. Not sure if a dealership can replicate the coating in just that spot. But for sure, the grinding and welding there is pretty basic.

Yeah I definitely agree on the coating. It’s not even worth the time, no reason it shouldn’t be a warrantable repair or replacement in this case.
