ford is planning to put a range extender in the lightning for 2027.

the EV charger is/was a boondoggle of stellantis’ own design.

jeep is moving to hybrids/REVs.
Yea, I guess my point, if I actually have one, is that in America we love our EV's as long as they come with an ICE engine.

I think in 10 years we'll be looking back and saying, "Did they really think it was good idea to put both an electric motor AND a gas engine in a vehicle".

Seems like the worst of both worlds to me. All the complexity and weight of this so I can go 25 miles on battery before the gas motor takes over?

I guess we've gotten away from the "I'm saving the planet, to I have a sh*t ton of torque and can blast away from a stop sign in 1 sec and power my Dometic cooler".

Seems like a lot of fuss for nothing to me.

Sounds like a setup for a “I got ya”.

I said “Toyotas hybrid 4Runner, Land Cruiser has not been well liked based on sales from what I have seen.”
This is my opinion based on my observation and expectations pre release and post release.
Got any sources? I don’t think iforce sales numbers have been released but Toyota might have said something about it.

sales seem fine and lean towards poaching ford/jeep sales due to the hybrid design: https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/toyota-4runner-sales-figures/

Hopefully we see that hybrid coyote that was in that screenshot, wishful thinking but that may be what makes me trade in mine for a new one if it isn't too expensive
🤫I'm just glad that a few were able to peruse those screenshots before that thread was scrubbed by morning. There was a lot of interesting information there. I suspect the hybrid coyote will be expensive.

Most likely, as it gives what a lot of folks have been asking for, a V8, so they will make you pay up for it.

From the complaints on this forum site about the low cargo weight capacity I wonder what the Bronco's max load limit will be when it is carrying a big battery around with it.

Were you thinking of the relatively low towing capacity which has been attributed to the soft suspension?

No. He's referring to the GVWR. I presume any hybrid won't be available to the Badlands. With all the additional weight (underbody armor, steel front/rear bumper, SBD), it already pushes the GVWR.

A lot of old fuddy duddies wanting dinosaur tech for less horsepower than what a hybrid makes. I'm looking forward to it. Instant torque, better fuel economy, and the reliability of tech that's been in production for almost 30 years. What's not to like?
100% - all of this. If they had announced this sooner, I mighta held of ordering. Would LOOOOOOVE a hybrid Bronc

Seems like someone is tone deaf to the Bronco market, the electric for Ford has failed miserably in profits already.
Toyotas hybrid 4Runner, Land Cruiser has not been well liked based on sales from what I have seen.
Maybe the Jim Farley critics have been correct all along about this guy being full of bad decisions. Seems like a dumb move. The Bronco sport, now that screams hybrid.
Well exactly. Hybrid is not suitable for off-road applications such as Bronco, Wrangler and LC.
The additional weight, complexity and cost, paired with immature energy systems, is why most people steer clear.
We’re not talking soccer mom Highlanders.

What are you looking for that the gasser doesn't offer?

My only Hybrid experience is driving my daughter's CRV a couple of times. She dumped it pretty quickly for a full gasser 4-Runner. CRV seemed fine, pretty much like driving a regular one so I wasn't sure why I would pick one over the gas only model.

Give me a naturally aspirated V8 with a brushless alternator placed near the top of the engine as a simple option - let’s say $4000 upgrade, but not a Raptor or higher trim level.

An electric hybrid would get smoked the first time you hit a water mud hole or high water. Might be ok for Moab but would suck everywhere else.

Ford make the Bronco legendary and bulletproof- add V8

Your buyers did not want an ‘ electric F150, nobody who is serious about off-roading wants a hybrid.

Instead of a hybrid, how about just making the Bronco more reliable and successful. Be a little nicer to the 2-door's and bring back the V6. Enough crap about vehicles breaking and reliability not being there. Just make what we have better. I don't need or want a hybrid or an electric Bronco.

The demand was forced because of government influence, especially in Europe and Asia where taxes and the directive to eliminate ICE vehicles in the upcoming years. I doubt the adoption was because the public voluntarily made the choice, at least for the most part. This was true here in the U.S. as well up until the recent deregulation and the elimination of incentives. Once those incentives dried up, the sales stalled.

You can't say there was increased adoption when the public is coerced, or more accurately forced into buying EVs/Hybrids.

I'm not against EVs/Hybrids and I understand that eventually that's where we're headed. I just don't like when we are forced into a decision.
Like being forced to drive because of auto executives destroying good public transit in the 50s? Or being "forced" to be less free with seat belts? Governments job is the general welfare. That includes incentivizing it.

Now, exactly how that's done is up to a wide variety of opinions that don't belong here on this forum. What I will say is regular hybrids haven't been subsidized recently. EVs and PHEVs have, but hybrid sales have been organic. And we've hit a critical mass in hybrid sales growth for automakers to ensure the majority of their lineups offer a hybrid option.
