Ford has just released a new teaser for an upcoming hybrid version of the Bronco lineup, but it's unclear whether the vehicle shown is the full-size Bronco or the more compact Bronco Sport.
At first glance, the vehicle appears to have side mirrors identical to those on the Bronco Sport, hinting that it might be the smaller model. However, the hood design looks more sculpted and aggressive, aligning more with the full-size Bronco. The front end also seems slightly more angular, and the headlights are now almost square, diverging from the classic circular LEDs seen on current models.
Another detail adding to the mystery is a visible hump between the front seats. This could suggest the presence of a rear-mounted spare tire, a feature found on the full-size Bronco but not on the Bronco Sport.
The Bronco Sport has already received updates for the 2025 model year, including a refreshed design, which makes it unlikely to get another redesign for 2026. Meanwhile, speculation about a hybrid Bronco has been circulating for some time.
If this is indeed a hybrid version of the Bronco Sport, it could likely use the same hybrid powertrain found in the Ford Maverick, as the two models share a similar platform.
For the larger Bronco, a plug-in hybrid variant might adopt the powertrain currently used in the international Ford Ranger PHEV. That setup combines a 2.3-liter turbocharged engine with an electric motor and delivers around 30 miles of electric-only range. This would give it a competitive edge over the Jeep Wrangler 4xe.
At this stage, it appears increasingly likely that the full-size Bronco will be the model to receive a hybrid powertrain, at least in the Chinese market. The smaller mirrors seen in the teaser could simply be part of a broader mid-cycle refresh.
