I already have an appointment Ford is ordering a new one. However, I've already gotten used to having no strut and I might like it better. I wish they just made it so the door hinges were a bit tighter and required some force to open-close. But putting all that force on those tiny plastic threads is never going last. The whole strut idea was not a good one, and was poorly executed. I'd rather have a simple rope or chain that would prevent it from swinging too hard and breaking off it's hinges. Or just design it like a regular passenger door, with 2 positions where the door wants to rest.
It is way too heavy for the tailgate to be unsupported by a strut.

Struts in all applications wear out and need replaced. Looks like ours will be more often than normal.

I just received my order of these replacements, they are NOT the same thread as the struts. The replacements from this company have a M6-1.0 thread.

I checked the OEM strut thread is a SAE 20 count #10.

my FORD OEM clips haven’t broke yet, but would rather have a set of steel ones.
@Bellime
It looks like one end utilizes a 1/4-20 and the other end uses a 5/16-16 end. (note I don't have calipers to measure, but am not familiar with a SAE 20 count #10 size fitting. Did you ever find steel ones to replace the factory plastic?

Nope, I used the metric metal and forced them on
