That's a crock, another nanny system. I guess the lawyers must of figured they had to have the headlights automatically turn on or be liable if you drove in the dark without your headlights.

It's because people are to dumb to turn on their own lights. This will be in 100% of cars soon. I'm not sure how many times I see some moron driving around with their lights off in a rain storm.

You know that scene in Fast and Furious 8 where all the cars are hacked and swarm NYC? Bad news …

Ford's (or the regulation agencies) intended functionality is annoying, and the bugs I am having make it worse.

I bought a base to have the least amount of computer tech as possible. These mandated "features" that can't be easily disabled are terrible.

Looks like Forscan is in my future.

Why don't you want headlights on when it's dark outside

Of course I do, but I want to be able to control it. I can handle that responsibility.

The bug I am having where the lights just randomly turn themselves on when the vehicle is off and parked is the more important issue.

But these features bring along more possibility of something malfunctioning. Which is what I have here, and exactly why I don't like systems that automate something I do not want or need automated.

If they want a disclaimer and waived liability to disable these systems, that would be fine. But they don't give that option.

I manually control the lights on all my cars, even the ones that have automatic settings, so I can relate. I run full headlights during the daytime, so auto doesn't do it for me. I hated the auto headlamps on my 2000 S10 pickup. You had to do some stupid button press to keep them off every time you drove the truck.

Happens annoyingly regularly in my area. There are even a lot of people who won't bother to turn on their headlights after sunset until it's fully dark. (grrrr)

Are you sure that you don't have a loose knob and the vibration of the door closing moves it to "Automatic"? It may need to be replaced.

I just picked up my 2021 Bronco 2 Door and it is doing the same thing, I will park the vehicle in my driveway get out lock it with the key fob and walk away.... all lights will be off. then a few minutes later they just turn on on their own and stay on for awhile unless I go out there with the key and turn it on and turn the light selector to off again. basically it seems it doesn't remember anything but the auto on setting, not even that it should be off. Ill call dealer soon hopefully ford has a fix incoming, its pretty annoying.

This is still a problem with mine as well.

To be clear, this is not a problem with the vehicle defaulting to auto headlamps after power cycling. That is a separate nanny issue.

The problem is, no matter the headlight knob position, after leaving the vehicle parked and off, the headlights will turn on by themselves. Sometimes they will turn off after some time, but often I return to the vehicle with them on.

When this happens, the headlight knob is not illuminated and seems asleep. Turning the knob a few times wakes it up, and when it does wake up, the headlight "ON" LED is illuminated. Again, it does not matter what position it was left in when the vehicle was turned off.

I just received my Forscan setup, so I am going to disable the auto headlight default setting and see if that does anything.

I’m having an issue with this as well. I’ve been trying to make sure I’m not bumping the switch on my way in or out to make sure it isn’t me causing it. Seems pretty random.

Have any of you that are experiencing this noticed that when this happens, the clock is set to the wrong time?

To me it seems as if there is some sort of system reboot that is occurring. My guess is something is crashing and rebooting. I am not sure if the reboot causes the headlights to turn on, or if the headlights are malfunctioning causing a reboot.

Why wouldn't you just leave the headlights in Auto mode?
It doesn't matter what position or mode the headlights are left in when turning off the vehicle. This is a bug.

I always leave it on auto now in hopes the sasquatch can't turn them on. But no matter what, even when left in auto, I find my headlights on with the vehicle off. And, as mentioned, the headlight knob is not illuminated until I turn it a few times to wake it up. When it wakes, the LED for Headlights on is illuminated.
