37 KO2s hit factory running boards?

Seems like a really tight fit. Seeing just a hair over an inch of clearance at the tights on stock sasquatch Goodyears.

I have stock wheels with 1.4” spacers so slight negative offset. Plan on keeping both wheels and spacers and getting 37 KO2s. Reading actual size of stock tires are 34.4 vs k02 at 36.5 so there goes my inch of clearance. Maybe I clear by a millimeter or two. Unless those dimensions are off and the ko2 is closer to 36.0?

I don’t think articulation comes into play, nor would a 1 or 2” lift change anything (which I’m considering) since the running board is so closely aligned to the center of the tire at it’s widest.

thoughts from actual experience?

I don’t want to remove the boards or hack away at them. Other people need them. And the investment for aftermarket boards will probably be a non starter to simply get 37s. So this decision really boils down to whether the KO2s hit the boards are not.

edit found a photo of a ko2 - looks to be around 35.2”. Just measure my Goodyear at 32.8” so that’s a 1.2” difference in radius about the same if slightly greater than the clearance I have now. Ugh. Just measured out 1.2” of index cards to the tire and it indeed hits.

Since you are using running boards, I'm assuming you don't need full articulation? Then I wouldn't worry about rubbing at all if it isn't rubbing when driving around. 1" of clearance is ... not bad. My 38's actually kiss on a lot of places, but don't rub hard enough to make any noise or cause any damage.

If you are worried about it, a small lift could give you more clearance, particularly a top-hat or body lift, either of which physically move the tire further from the body, even at full stuff

Yeah - saw you remove the cap, remove the board, cut it and reattach the cap. Maybe not that big of a deal. Just shocked I haven’t seen guys with 37s and running boards saying it doesn’t work. I’m also accounting for KO2s which are in the smaller side. Maybe my 35mm spacers just took it over the top, it’s a -5 offset compared to most guys with 37s getting 0 offset rims. Idk. Unless a 2 inch lift gets me that extra couple mms to not rub.

Ooo I misread. Yeah, you either need too much lift, or a hacksaw. I think I read where many people with some brands of running boards could pop the endcap off, make the cut, then put the endcap back on.

That's what I did... Wasn't hard. There are slits in the board that i had to duplicate - so the tabs all set the same as stock. This is with stock running boards.. Take the end off and you will see what I mean.

I’m running ko2 37s with no lift and zero offset wheels. I had to trim the front edge of the rocksliders, cut off the crash bars, heat bend and push the front inner fender liners up as much as I could, I also removed some plastic pieces behind the inner liners and to move some wiring to protect them, replaced the fender flares for a high clearance one. My alignment is done by my friends offroad shop, he moves the front wheels forward so I can get a bit more clearance. I slightly touch the inner liners at full articulation with the wheel turned. Nothing that would damage anything tho.
If you’re one of those that like to have a house in your roof you may want to consider a 1.5” lift to put you back at stock height when fully loaded. For me a .25-1” leveling kit would be more than enough.
