Future of the 2.7L?

Anyways, I’m glad to see the change. Bumping the displacement of the 2.7 design to 3.0 will make a nice product refresh without really too much extra work. Having the current performance model 3.0 get an overhaul and rebranding it to the 3.0 H.O. will make sure there’s still an edge for those models like the Raptor and ST.

The 3.0 doesn’t have port and direct injection. Until Ford fixes that, they should stay with the 2.7.

The current 3.0 isn’t the 2.7. The new 3.0 isn’t the current 3.0 used in performance models. Ford will be producing two different 3.0 engines with different designs only sharing the same common displacement much like the current 3.5 and 3.5 H.O. The new and upcoming 3.0 that is replacing the 2.7 is utilizing the same block and head design.

Ford is probably going through their offerings and dropping the ones that don't break. Can't make money if things don't break. Personally, I think a regular 5.0 would be great. Maybe then there would be some engine braking on the steep 15 mph switchbacks around here. Driving a 2.7 downhill is like driving a Taurus downhill on I-70. Freefall...... Now all you can do now is turn on Cruise Control and let it drag the brakes all the way down. Dumb.

"Off the line" is the only thing the 10R60 knows. It can only operate in regimes where the 2.3L is superior.
The 2.7L NVH is absolutely off the scale too. The whole car shakes like a paint mixer.
I can only assume Ford is starting to realize how redundant this motor is too and collapsing the line to engines that make business sense. At least the 3.0 makes some power for all the intolerable downsides of owning a V6.

This is actually the main reason I thought I was driving a 2.3L. The Outer Banks offers the 2.7L for 2026 - that was news to me! The previous Big Bend with the 2.3L was completely indistinguishable from this once filtered through the god awful 10R60 transmission, except of course that the 2.3L doesn't vibrate the vehicle like a jackhammer.

It takes the internet to find there are some seriously screwed up viewpoints out there. No, the 2.7 does not shake the truck like a jackhammer. My truck and everyone I've been in is quite smooth actually, yet another reason the 2.7 is so well regarded and viewed as one of Ford's best engines. How you didn't know the OB has the 2.7L as an option, something it has had for a while is odd. My guess is you did meth and cocaine at the same time. In the immortal words of Kirk Lazarus- Never go full retard...

Isn’t the 2.7 widely regarded as the most advanced, stable, and genuinely the best all around ecoboost engine, only argument is maybe the 3.5…
The debate is often whether or not the 2.7 is the best ecoboost, not whether or not it’s good.
I think any plan to retire it means they are replacing it with something new or just slimming their engine line up, it probably does not mean that 2.7 is bad in any sense.

The 3.5L had issues in traverse applications (waterpumps), but then again Ford doesn't offer any vehicles like that anymore after the SHO died off a while ago.

The new 3.0 in the F-150 is not that motor. It has port and direct injection. It’s a stepped up 2.7. The Raptor motor isn’t what is going in the F-150 at all.

Saw the 2027 F-150 order guide come across a Reddit thread today. The dropped the 2.7L for the 3.0, perhaps the Bronco will get the same?

It makes sense from a money standpoint to replace the 2.7L with the upcoming detuned (standard output) 3.0L
