Let's talk recovery gear please..

I am trying to build out my recovery gear for my offroading trips. I currently have a Badlands Apex 12k winch, arb compressor, 48v 14" chainsaw, Hatcher, and a small e-tool.

I know I should really have a tree saver but not sure if I need a 3"x8' or a 4"x10'. I should also have some soft shackles but no idea the size. I have two hard shackles on my rig.

Kinetic rope would most likely need to be a 7/8x30.

Do I requesting is do I need to sink high dollar like the Yankee ropes or would rhino usa be ok at about half the price or even some Amazon ropes and soft shackles, tree saver, and snatch block?

Is there really anything else o would need for my badlands sasquach?

Right now money is tight, so id probably have to purchase one piece at a time.

in my opinion you could skip the stretchy rope as you have a winch. Yes it takes longer but there is more control. Though towing an inoperable vehicle is VERY nice with a kinetic rope compared to a strap. If you get one size it for what you plan on doing. Getting too big of a rope may damage your vehicle

I’d go with the longer tree saver, or two shorter ones. 4” seems excessive.

For soft shackles-people will get all riled up on that subject. I have a couple from Yankum and one from MHI. The MHI has tighter tolerances to get the knot through, so that’s a pain in the ass. Unless I’m using a snatch block we don’t have any metal in our lines, so personally I wouldn’t be bothered using stuff from Amazon (unless I needed it for the snatch block).

I’m a big snatch block appreciator. Can be very useful for line redirects; they’re not just for increasing the winch capacity. We carry a couple with us. And a 90’ winch line extension.

Yep you'll get all kinds of opinions over brand names and such. I can say the Badlands soft shackles work great. They are a little stiff compared to others I've seen but they do the job. I would get two of their's and at least one of the short tree savers.

I have the Badlands soft shackles and tree saver as well as the snatch block. I haven't used the snatch block yet, but no issues with the shackles or tree saver.

You will want a tree saver (or something similar) - you never really want to wrap your winch line around anything or hook around to itself. That's what the tree saver and shackles are for.

The big thing on name brand vs no-name:
Big name has some warranty and reputation to uphold. Chinesium stuff doesn't care a bit if your line breaks while you are in the woods. It ~probably~ comes from the same factory.

Make sure you are following basic safety stuff - don't straddle a line, don't stand in the line of fire, pop your hood, slow and steady tension, get as straight of a pull line as you can, etc. And don't get stuck in the mindset of "because I have a winch I have to use a winch" - it is not always the best tool. A lot of times a come-along or jack can do better because of positioning.

I'm a big fan of (almost) always using one snatch block back to the vehicle.

For the record, a lot of my stuff is no-name. But I'm not afraid to throw it out once it starts to show some wear and tear. I only really trust my logging chain.

My recommendation - get a tree saver and a snatch block - then run a few trails and see if you think you are missing anything after that. That's enough stuff to get you out of 90% of what you would ever want to use your winch for. Mine mostly gets used to pull logs off the trail, but I've pulled a few people back, and a lot of fence posts and such at the house.

Also, a shovel and a towel.

I have a 30' kinetic rope and kinda wish I went with a 20'. The 30' is just so huge and challenging to store. I can add a 10' tree saver to a 20' if I really need the extra length, and I always have a tree saver regardless of the rope.
