Would be interesting to see what the weight difference is between the full factory setup (tank/skid) vs this tank.
Probably much less than the weight difference between driver vs driver and passenger(s), but that's a question I've been too afraid to ask for years. :ROFLMAO:

... and low, relatively centered. Probably less than unsprung weight of most wheel/ tire modifications.

will try to get this installed hopefully in the next 2 weeks, between work, and my busted golf R sitting on jackstands in my main garage. Hands are tied. I'm not snoball material, so i'm most likely not pulling this off in my driveway.
just not sure if i'll be able to get to somethings with one side of the car jacked up
Any updates?

Hope the weather and the VW are cooperating @rayofsi .

That said, upon further reflection and examination of my factory fuel tank skid, I'm a bit concerned about the two primary cross straps used to structurally support and secure the tank. These, 100%, should have been recessed (which would add a lot of welding). Or possibly some other solution could have been used to eliminate the way they hang in harms way. They have a very high chance to get caught up on rocks or other obstacles. Seems like a pretty significant oversight for the known use cases for a Bronco, especially a Raptor.

I'm no engineer, but seems to me.You could incorporate them straps into the tank/skid plate itself??? Seems like the common sense way to accommodate the straps....NOT creating a huge lip to catch on or get hung up on obstacles...

i think the concern with that new design is for those that have the next venture full underbody, those protective humps will make it even more difficult to find a solution to be able to fit the underbody over this tank

Fantastic. Thanks for the very rapid reply.

This enhancement is great. I'll probably be purchasing.

Now that said, fully agree with @BigMeatsBronco above, the straps seem very well protected, but you've also replaced one problem with another (i.e. damaged/broken strap with significant hang up spots created).

Feel like a mountain from a mole hill

There are so many things that could catch and the tank is pretty far back
And yet the fuel tank is what always seems to get hung up when you are out in the rocks.

Have you thought about offering a tank that doesn't have this 5 mm plate on it that way again for those of us that have the under body protection it would make it much easier. Alternatively, if the tank itself was 1 inch shorter in height what would its capacity be reduced down to?

I am sure Mr. Ma's answer will be more eloquent and detailed than mine.... But I have a feeling that if you want to keep the skid plate you currently have.... Plan on purchasing some rotopax....
