Tubular or solid/stamped? What's your experience?

Dreaming of warmer weather and thinking I should add half doors to keep the kids "contained". They love the no top fun machine but get a little freaked out at times without the doors.

For me I would get tube doors if anything, but if I needed doors to keep younger kids in, I would just leave my doors on with the windows down. I consider the Bronco doors half doors since they are frameless windows.

Rolling down your window equates to having 1/2 doors as they are frameless. Tube door are something else 🤠

One of the first things I thought when seeing my first 6G Bronco was “hey, it has built in half doors”! It was at the same time I was looking for a set of TJ half doors that always seemed to be over $800.

I guess the bronco doors could be a bit shorter but I’m stoked they are frameless. Compared to my TJ door frames the new wranglers seem to keep getting thicker window frames and smaller windows.

The frameless doors is one of the many reasons I went with a Bronco instead of a Wrangler. I still have my 97 with half doors, but it is almost impossible to get a new Wrangler with half doors these days. And very expensive! And they don't have glass windows that roll up automatically. Plastic and zippers. No thank you.

the half doors I've seen are composite and need to be painted. both of those result in quite a bit of investment, albeit for a seldom seen look. My kids f everything up tho so it's tube doors for me. Coming this winter.

The frameless windows have a drawback for anyone who has to deal with freezing and/or ice - if ice gets down inside, it will prevent the drop-down from working, and make it harder to open/close the door.

I have a special old plastic bank card for that very issue. No drawback at all.

When the window is frozen all the way UP, the door will still open, but good luck getting it shut properly - the window WILL stay outside the seal.

You need to push the card between the glass and the Weatherstripping, run it along the length of the window and it safely separates the rubber from the glass.

I bought the @EZ4X4 tubes for wife door....and if I had kids and was inclined to pull their doors, I go with the same. For me, totally naked. And that's just the door! lol

I'd put out there that even though the windows are frameless, it's not the same as a 'half door'. I have full doors and half doors on my YJ. Yes, the full doors have window frames, but the main point is that there is something about less door being there. It's not about the frame. When the YJ half doors are on, you can look out and see so much more of the road (or whatever else you are traversing). It doesn't have much to do with the window frame imo - it's that the top of the door sill is a lot lower. Though it is nice to not have that extra bit there on the Bronco.

I wish ford would have come up with a more official version of those cut out half-door things I remember seeing pictures of back in the day - back then they were talking about all the body parts being somewhat modular and such - iirc.

Something like below on the 6G would be freakin' awesome - I would shell out for something like that in an instant.
