I'd love painted... Till I scratched the ish out of it the first month dragging tree limbs across it.

My first edition with only 25,000 miles and always garage kept has a bad top. I took it in while under warranty multiple times and they would not replace it. It has some separation on the top, light cracking under the side windows, fiber is come off all the edges, and now it is separated along the back corner. After seeing the TSB I've gone in again last week. They will not fix it under warranty but the dealer said they would by some other route but, I will have to pay almost $1,000 of it. Anyone get theirs replaced after being out of warranty?

Warranty is only 3 year/36k miles (whichever comes first)
After that Ford will sometimes goodwill part of a repair, which is likely what the dealership is referring to. But they won’t pay for the whole thing.

If that's the case that stinks. Considering I brought it up multiple times while under warranty and now the things in the TSB are all reasons to replace it. Also I forgot to mention that it has honeycombing.

I agree as I'm noticing issues with mine. 2022 with about 40k miles.

I figured I was SOL since out of warranty. I plan to get it coated with something like line-x or rhino or whatever. TBD...

I purchased a spare top complete with front panels, windows and all for $1000 off Facebook Marketplace. Just keep an eye out for them. It came off a First Edition that the owner went with a soft top. I plan to get it Line-X'ed in the future . To me it looked thicker and better than any top I have seen. I was hoping they had paid closer attention to getting things right on the First Editions . If yours is failing, then that doesn't seem to verify that hypothesis :(

Yeah model doesn’t make a difference. They all get the same top

Yeah I know. I was just thinking they may have paid special attention to detail since they were supposed to be the first ones out there.

Nah if anything the first ones were the worst. Hence the customer satisfaction program to replace the MIC 1.0

@Ducati1098

Thanks again for this resource.

I am sure the answer is no, but worth asking anyway to confirm. I assume Ford is still not willing to allow MIC customers to pay a few extra thousand dollars to "upgrade" to a painted hardtop when their MIC top fails under warranty?

No problem at all

As far as the upgrade, that isn't something Ford will likely ever do

lol I tried the same thing - why replace the top with the same thing? Just pushing the issue down the road another 3 ish years. Hopefully by then there are even more options.

When I asked my dealer they never even responded

Maybe in another 3 years there will be some used OEM painted hard tops on the market for sale. Or cheaper aftermarket parts.

hoping so
I had given up and started to look at bedliner options that were a fine application. I did not want a heavy, coarse finish. Found some potential options but then Ford decided to take care of my top(after a lengthy battle) before I went any further with research.

Either that or just go with the soft top

Pretty impressive there aren’t lawsuits about this. I saw one with bed liner on it… maybe that’s the move if out of warranty?
