No progress on our clunky rack... Quinn quit responding to email after offering to rebuild the rack. Chad (technician) answers the phone (sometimes) and says he needs approval or some excuse to call back (never does).

74Weld has removed the Stage 2 and Stage 3 from their website. Chad claims it is due to the donor factory steering racks costing $3,000 vs $1,000. This makes no sense since I can order a complete Hoss 3.0 rack for $1,000 as a consumer (with tie rods).

What is going on??

Did they run out of Henkel-brand loctite?

Keep in mind that it’s not just him. @TruckCamper posted it earlier in the thread where 74w says the clunking is normal.

It sounds like my work when we call back defects to the other shop, they always blame it on the supplier... I wish I could just say "yeah, and then you built the damn thing knowing the part was out of tolerance!".

The really crappy part about this is maybe the guy who won't respond or remediate is right, it's stronger even with the chatter/knock. But every time I feel in my feet or hands or hear a chatter or noise I think something is wrong. Makes the experience entirely more stressful than just leaving things stock and willing to work a trail-fix following an instant break.

Anyway, @Valhalla I'll be in Windrock in January. Would love for you and a crew to show me around!

These guys certainly have the blame game down. With exception of the bolts holding the Tacoma portals to the axle. They did admit to those being too small after a few failures. Probably ought to do more testing than driving back and forth from work.

Speaking of those bolts, I’m getting the feeling even with the bigger bolts the aluminum threads in the 74 portals are going to start failing with great frequency. It will start with those that wheel, but even the overlanders are going to fail after time. The threads simply can’t handle the load.

Yip-exactly this. Whenever I drive wifey’s bronco and feel the clunk, I still gotta check the tierods even though I know what it is. It’s that unsettling.
