That said, I wouldn’t pay that much for them.

That's what came to my mind. Seems a bit pricy for some potentially sketch Asian made brand.

I get the allure of cheap off brand tires to save some money, but you're not even really saving in this case. I think my freaking stock 37" BFG KO2s are only retailing for maybe $50 to $80 more per tire than that.

The main issue is that offbrand tires inspire very little confidence in overall build quality (and quality and reliability) with a lot of production in either China or Southeast Asia. You don't have the reputation of a major manufacturer at stake for instance.

Personally I'd rather get stuff manufactured in the US or Europe in most cases (and quite a few major brands like Cooper, Toyo, Continental, Michelin, etc. have a lot of manufacturing not in Asia). That being said, I have a set of Falken FK460s built in Thailand on my EV6 GT right now, and have not had any issues whatsoever and saved nearly $150 a tire versus a comparable Michelin Pilot Allseason.

I kind of feel like there are three tiers of tire companies out there (and note, this is just my idea on it, some people may completely disagree with me )...

Top: Your large, established mainstream manufacturers who command a price premium (sometimes unwarranted) such as Michelin, Continental and Pirelli. A brand like BFGoodrich and Goodyear is probably in the mix here.

Middle: Your upstart companies that in some cases are making pretty damn good tires now to try to compete with the top, more established brands at a discount. Nokian, Falken, Kumho and Hankook all come to mind in this case. Note, some of these brands are probably on their way to being at the "top" (or are arguably already there like Falken for SUV/truck tires). I'd argue Toyo/Nitto is another good example of a brand that was probably here 10 to 15 years ago and is pushing towards top tier now.

Bottom: No name brands with production pretty much uniquely in China, Thailand or Vietnam. I'd probably also throw things like the store brand specials from a place like Big O Tires in the mix here.

This being said, you could get a pretty damn good deal on offbrand tires and have no issues. In a place like Arizona where blow outs are super common due to our extreme weather and heat can do a number on materials and wear, plus if you plan on doing trail duty with your tires, I personally woudln't risk the bottom.

1500 for some no names isn't my cup of tea. Maybe if I was putting them on some winter beater or woods beater xj or something. But I'd rather spend a tiny bit extra for a known good brand tire to put on my bronco.

Michellen usually wins this contest, although not necessarily in the A/T or M/T tire market, nor is every single tire they produce "excellent". But on average across all tires, I'd say they are probably on top. The Cross-Climate is a very good tire for most vehicles, but I would not put them on a Bronco.

For A/T stuff - The BF Goodrich KO2 is the king of the hill - I see more of these tire than any other tire, bar none. And it's the factory tire for Badlands and Raptors. I won't say they are without their detractors and are all pro and no con - a lot of people think there are better tires out there. But for reliability, there are millions of these tires on the road. If I see a Jeep/Tacoma/lifted truck on the road, good odds are it is running KO2s.

A not-so-close second is Falken Wildpeak AT, I see a lot of these on all sorts of vehicles - SUVs, farm trucks, off road vehicles, etc. A very durable tire, and I see a lot of them, so again, lots of these running down the road. But I see enough of these that it's worth note - many more so than any other brand below.

Other brand names that get honorable mentions - probably not gonna go wrong with any of these:
Goodyear / Cooper / Mickey Thompson (owned by same company)
Nitto / Toyo (owned by same company)
Continental / General (owned by same company)
Yokohama
Kenda

I'm missing a lot here that are good tires - so don't take this as an exhaustive list. Tires can also be highly specialized - if you are in Louisiana running mud bogs, there is probably a better tire for that than someone doing desert runs in New Mexico on sharp rocks, and that would be a different tire from someone slogging through high mountain passes in Winter by Tahoe - and all of those would be different from someone who just dailies to work and back and is looking for good mileage and road manners.

Kenda

Kenda is an interesting one given that they were kind of a Taiwanese upstart as of 10 to 15 years ago (I remember a lot of folks loved running their ATs back then as they were WAY cheaper than more mainstream tires), but it seems like a lot of people really do like them now.

I kind of thought of them as near no-names up until the last few years, but am seriously considering if a Klever RT red letter would make a good Braptor replacement tire.

They seem to be somewhat limited by their US distribution right now as a lot of the big volume tire shops such as Discount and Tirerack do not seem to carry them at all.

An idea back on the tires being looked at: check the date they were made.
How old are tires someone may be selling? Even from a tire shop.

I know you've made a decision but just wanted to toss these 2 cents out there.

That is exactly what I would expect to find on 26s, especially if they are at least 4 inches outside the fender.
But a 5 rating, that's got to be great, right?

I would rather get these for about the same price. I bet if you walked into discount tire and asked them to match $1500 for 5 installed, they would do it. Tires and install alone would be $1540 before taxes.
