But I betcha if you poll the general public, more people would rather have a hybrid Bronco than a V8 Bronco
In my opinion that just reveals the effectiveness of a certain point of view pushed by all the significant institutions (media, government, schools, etc.)

If most people understood the actual pros and cons of hybridization, how little of the actual cost of their vehicle ownership is gasoline, how clean the emissions of modern ICE engines ( including powerful V8's) actually are, etc. those sorts of polls would turn out quite different.

If they could pair a hybrid with a manual transmission, I’m all for it. Honda has done this. No need to go full EV but hybrid turbo set up is cool. I’ve had older V8s but now mostly performance oriented turbo cars recently because I like to modify my cars and factory forced induction usually comes with relatively cheap power adding potential. A Coyote would be nice but going to need a supercharger to hang with a tuned hybrid Turbo.

Personally, I don't understand the appeal either. First priority for me is a manual transmission, but if a manual wasn't available and I was forced to buy an automatic, I rather have a hybrid automatic than an ICE.

But yeah, we're probably in the minority among those on a Bronco enthusiast forum.

I betcha if you polled the general public though... more people would rather have a hybrid Bronco than a V8 Bronco.
The "general public" are perfectly happy with whatever their salesman tells them they need and don't even know what a Bronco is!

With you man, but my point would be; who cares about the general public?

The general public aren’t passionate about anything. They drove the Taurus, then the Camry….. Either one of those in your stable EVER, then I don’t want to talk cars with you, because why?

It’s fine if Ford offers a hybrid too, knock yourself out, but I and many want a V8. Doesn’t have to make sense, I don’t care about MPG. I want a V8 because it’s my money, my problem to deal with it, and I want to wheel with one under the hood. I can lose some HP and torque, just gI’ve me that good ole American V8 rumble and feel. No interest in a 4 pot hybrid; how’s that working out right now for Toyota? Right, it’s not.

Accountants do. they killed the v8 a whole lot more than just about anyone else. It's in Ford's best interest to come up with engines that can be used all over the place, vs just having "this one engine that only fits in this one car". They do that on things like Shelby mustangs, and look at how prohibitively expensive those engines are.

The 2.3L ecoboost goes into *how* many different cars these days? the bronco, the mustang, the focus RS, a couple other sedans and small SUV's before they killed off cars in favor of trucks. Same with the 2.7, and even the 3.0. When all you gotta do is change a bit of tuning for each model, that's just a smart business move to do it that way. Same thing that Audi did with engines in VW/Audi/Skoda/etc. It's all just a 2.0 with different tuning or a different turbo.

As for the other guy mentioning that our oil will all be gone in 4 years. 'Peak Oil' has been a looming spectre in the world for about 55 years now, and we haven't hit it. I do firmly believe that we will 100% reach the point where oil will get wildly inefficient and expensive to get out of the ground, and bad things (tm) will happen at that point. However, we will have long since cooked our planet into oblivion long before that happens. I wouldn't worry about it.

As long as I can make big v8 noises and go vroom vroom to circle k, my kids and grandkids can go pound sand. I'm sure they'll understand that I had very real needs.
(this last bit was sarcasm, just fyi)

Accountants….. :cautious:

Yeah, the bean counters also said the Bronco wouldn’t work, they also said EVs would make tons of money. They’re the business equivalent of “the general public”, hard pass on listening to accountants.

Use one of the V8s from the F Series line if the coyote won‘t fit, or make it fit during a redesign. My thing is that it’ll sell, will be high profit based on the high price and the tech know how is already well engrained in the company.

Again, love my 2.7 and it’s more power than necessary, but it sounds terrible and feels boring most of the time. I’ll pay a premium for the rumble of the V8.

Can’t speak anymore on that poster with the 4 year crap.

It’s political…..

They’ll be smarter than you think. Instead of questioning your moral rectitude, they will be wondering why you and so many others fell for the same general ‘sky is falling’ anxiety as a certain percentage does in every age. Instead of condemning you, they will see what it is simply human nature - their nature.

Ford can just look to to Jeep to see how this movie ends. Folks wanted Jeep to slap a big engine in the Wrangler, so Jeep built the 392 and it made about 2.5% of Wrangler production and is being phased out. Same for the diesel, which they canned in 2023. Meanwhile, the 4xe PHEV is the best selling PHEV in North America and accounts for about a quarter of Wrangler sales.

I was waiting for the EV version of the Bronco, so I could get the power/acceleration/efficiency and fuel up at home, but Ford seems to have put those plans on ice (no pun intended), so I put money down for a Scout.

If that’s your evidence, you’re just bias.

The 392 didn’t sell well, outside of the rich poser crowd ($100K for a $25K Jeep), because it can’t wheel. The fuel pump is trash on purpose, which means the engine cuts when driving on an incline in anything under a completely full fuel tank. Who would want that? Jeep didn’t give the 392 a robust pump for a V8 because Italy/France and they didn’t care. Those who know cars get what listing those two countries means.

Anyway, the 4xe sells to even more posers who are a bit more normal ($$) because it got $7500 off the top of the normal already discounts. Now that $7500 of free gov money for the already fairly wealthy is gone, it won’t sell anymore. It also can’t wheel worth a damn.

Without gov welfare incentives, EVs won’t sell because they just aren‘t what people want. That’s not politics, it’s just the truth.

The charging infrastructure is horrible and most Americans like a good roadtrip and not everyone takes the interstate due to traffic and potential for accidents, and there’s the general public who traverse them very poorly all the time. Even off the interstate networks, EV fast charging is terrible. Basically, you can’t go too far over 200 miles and for me, that won’t even get me to the beach which is like 280 miles one way and my state has a coast!

I get it, culture wars, fear of global warming (which is very real), and just wanting something new and different. These things give many a chubby for the theory of the EV. However, in application, unless you’re in a coastal urban area, EVs are just sketch. Sure, there are sketch gas stations all over, but they‘re there in a pinch whereas your fast charger to get on with the trip, just isn’t.

4XEs are very popular in my Chicago suburb where probably 100% of EV/hybrid owners have chargers in their garages. They work great for people who have short commutes 99% of the time and we all know the vast majority of people who drive off road vehicles are just cosplaying. I drive a 392 but would love a better performing 4XE. I didn't want to give up the 392 performance but the reality is I rarely drive more than 15 miles a day. If the 4XE could match the 392 0 to 60 I could get over the lack of v8 noise/pops.

I get it though. Electric / hybrids are probably the best choice for 95% of buyers. Most people don't drive more than 50 miles a day and rarely do 200+ mile trips. Sure if you live in a rural area or do a lot of road trips they may not be ideal, but that is an exception not the rule.

I bet a Coyote bronco gets better gas mileage than a 3.0 raptor.
my fn race car Coyote destroys the MPG in my 3.0 braptor by 2 fold easy. Running 93 in my Coyote at 82 mph highway, its 27.2 MPG, yeah a bit difference in aero but still. The braptor is currently about 14.2 same scenario 🤪

How the heck do you get 27 when my daily 2020 GT/CS, fully stock, gets 20.5?

Regardless I still bet the coyote gets better mileage because it has more torque down low and can be geared to run there normally.
