But a little in depth - The front differential is on the driver's side. The driver's CV axle connects directly to the FDU side gear via splines. Because the location of the FDU, there is an intermediary shaft that bridges the gap between the FDU and the passenger's cv axle. The CV axles connect to the wheel hub with more splines. When wheeling with the front locker engaged, the splines are under a lot of strain especially when the locker is continuous and with varying steering and throttle input.

Worst case scenario is that you no longer have 4WD as you have sheered off the splines of the CV axles and/or the intermediary shaft. Best case scenario is to selectively and sparingly engage and then disengage the front locker.

The instructors at the Texas Off Roadeo stressed lines over lockers the whole time we were there. The instructor would take us to a unique obstacle and then have us turn on one of the lockers. He then told us why and as soon as we were past the obstacle he had us turn off the locker. EDIT: Prior to Off Roadeo I had zero rock climbing experience. It was definitely an eye opener for me. I learned a lot. @Astronaut, if you get a chance you should go, you won't be disappointed.

Yes to all the above. Lockers can be beneficial. But I think most use them as a crutch instead of taking a better line or improving their technique.

I made a little more progress on my fuel/tool rack. All I need now is the fuel can/mount, but I'm having a mental block with rotopax prices. Anybody have experience with the Chinesium alternatives

I seen no reason to invest double the price and I have a boatload of S/S fasteners so that was what I used to attach. After a year outside no issues but i did use anti-size on the threads.

Folks that live where salt is dumped on the roads live by anti-seize. Any hardware I remove gets a coating of anti-seize before reassembly.

It ensures that threads don't bind up or rust together. Also critical when threading dissimilar metals together.

There were things I did at the off-rodeo that will never do with my own Bronco. And for the hard-core Bronco guys, they probably rate the toughest thing you do at the off-rodeo as a 4 out of 10 (and probably even less)

I probably take my Bronco to a 2 or 3 out of what it is capable of offroad and that is OK with me. It is nice to know I could do something stupid if I had to and the Bronco could handle it (like escaping from a bunch of Mad Max zombies or something like that), but ordinarily I am just traversing rutted out county back-roads or climbing 15* incline snow-covered hills to get to a good hunting spot.

Totally recommend going if you can, especially if you are not an experienced off-roader. If you are like me, you don't know what you don't know, and the off-rodeo is a great eye-opener for what a Bronco can do, in a relatively safe environment.

I guess I never really paid much attention to it. Is the off rodeo free to new bronco owners? Got mine Jan ‘23 so wonder if I could still go. Hmm

Your voucher has likely expired. Go to the Off-Roadeo site and begin the registration process. If it deems you are no longer eligible, you can try calling their customer service to see if they can extend your voucher.
