Front Driver Bumper Edge - Thinned Paint

While trying to do a light touch up…. I noticed an entire edge of my panel is pretty much black and showing through compared to the passenger. Is this area of concern? Is there anything to do about this warranty wise? It must have just been something I never noticed or looked hard enough at, but sure can’t be normal.

It's not really a concern because that part of the vehicle isn't going to rust and corrode.

It may be covered by warranty though—you'd have to work with your dealership to figure it out one way or another.

Do you think it would be worth it with the possibility of the color not matching or them messing up anything else or would it be worth it for them to fix or turn out worse than before? I get so nervous of the thought of dealerships and their work ethics and if it is or isn’t worth trying to fix or get “correct”. Idk how I never noticed it til I was down by the fender touching up a chip.

That's up to you. I'm someone who scratched the paint on their Bronco within the first month while off-roading, so I'm not the right person to answer that question.

Good chance the dealership themselves won't do the work. Very few dealerships have painting capabilities, so if the warranty repair gets approved, it will most likely get sent to a body shop to the do the painting.

Yeah, I just put a bunch of 2x4s in mine, so I'm not terribly concerned either.

However, I worked at a dealership way back and they had some guys who could paint stuff like that and they did phenomenal work. You may get lucky at your dealership.

You’re sure that’s thin/missing paint? Have you run your finger nail over it (like you would on a scratch)? Curious if it might just be a thin layer or dirt or something that will possibly wipe off. I’ve had lines similar to that and it was just dirt as it’s a difficult area to wash.

To me, that looks like a dealership repair hack. Sometimes vehicles suffer light damage during transport. 98% of the time they'll have in-house service staff touch it up as necessary. Skills sets among service personnel can range from expert to incompetent. The salesperson will do anything to keep you from finding out that any local repair was done but bad buff jobs like the one in your pic are easy to spot. It's actually quite rare that something like that would be allowed to go to a dealership. But once the vehicle leaves the assembly plant anything can happen.

I always fear dealerships and them doing a shotty repair job or even if I could get it deemed warranty and end up worse… because currently unless you get down on your news with a magnifying glass… It’s not noticeable. It’s been raining cats and dogs here and I forgot to reply to this thread! 🫠‍

‍🫠 Is this where I just leave it as is since it’s not too noticeable unless looking with a magnifying glass? Or is it worth it bringing up warranty wise or not probably even covered? I always worry about dealerships and paint quality of work on top of everything.

I’ve had random rail rust make the surface and random dirty and things get stuck with some elbow grease that I can remove, probably due to the color or maybe everyone is so lucky. But it’s not dirt. 🫠 But the edge isn’t rough either. It almost feels sealed over or at least flush when I feel the whole area. Sorry for the long response delay! It’s been raining here for days and cold and I clearly don’t know how to handle myself. 🫠‍

Just for peace of mind… I’ve gotten it like actually detailed twice. You don’t think that’s something they could have done or use those kind of tools, do you? Or is that more of something a paintshop/body work/dealership would have had to do?
