It happens to me and its because I hop in and start the Bronco as I shut the door. If you pay attention you will notice if the door is open and you start the Bronco the window will go up then down, almost like a calibration. Now that I noticed that I make it a habit of either shutting the door then starting it or wait for it to do the routine.
That’s what I have ended up doing and forced a change in habit to close the door before I start the vehicle.
It just doesn’t make sense as to why it would do it when the door is open but not when it’s closed. I have chalked it up to a SW glitch. It was gone for a while, and then came back which made me think that somewhere with all the bounce back SW updates, they fixed/un-fixed it.
Just sold my current Bronco and waiting on the next build to be delivered. Who knows if the next one will have this gremlin in it.

I didn't have this the first year, then had it the last 11 months. Dealer did the reset and looked at it but couldn't replicate, so the habit of starting before door is closed does make some sense. Does kinda seem like a software glitch. Just Saturday noticed it rolling up just as the door closed (and wedged against instead of in the rubber). I'll have to try this then. It at least makes sense what's happening, even if it's annoying.

Right but that procedure is really the only thing us consumers are capable of "resetting" on our end. I've had my windows move up an inch when opening the doors and that procedure fixed it. If that doesn't fix it then you may as well have Ford service investigate. My Ford dealer opted to replace my window switch bank under warranty. It is possible that a faulty switch can be at play too.

Funny, I had my switches replaced also, but only because all the rubber nubs fell off.

It’s just that this issue is not that. The window alignment is good.
The window opens and closes just fine and stops at the correct location when the door is closed.
The window auto indexes perfectly when opening or closing the door, when the car is on or off.
This is only under the specific condition where:
1) Car is off
2) Door opens and stays stays open. Window has auto indexed down (as it should).
3) Car is started.
4) Window will auto index up and down (should not go up and down, since door is open).

If the door is being closed when it’s going up and back down, there’s potential to close the door when the window is fully up. Which is less than ideal.
I just happen to do three things simultaneously when I get in the car. Foot on brake, press start and close the door all in one motion. Or used to until my car made me slow down and change my habit.

It really isn't the same. It's like it's not rolling down when the door is opened (which I don't think is the case, then it would hit the seal with a sound a big wobble), or it's rolling up too fast (before it's closed). Mine fits in the seal just fine, it just gets wedged too often after I've gotten in (but seemingly never when I get out). So the window rolling up when the truck is started and the door is still open makes sense. Like the software doesn't know if the door is closed or not.

Exactly. It’s like the car has forgotten, what it has done if the window is auto indexed prior to starting. Like one case condition is missing in the code to check [if door is open and window is indexed down] - do nothing.

Thanks Jdawg, I tested it today and that's exactly what my door is doing. It will be much easier to explain now to the dealer when I take it in for the recalls and service. thanks.

Perhaps an old battery or bad ground is causing the lapse of the vehicle knowing what position the window is in. Since it only occurs during heavy current draw at startup, this could indicate a voltage drop issue

It seems like "don't crank the engine while closing the door" is a way easier fix than "leave it at the dealer for two weeks only to have them tell you they can't reproduce the issue." And Ford isn't going to introduce a new line of code because three people enter their vehicles in a very specific manner.

I hate when people respond to real issues with answers like "it's an off-road vehicle, it's supposed to suck," but this is such a specific case that I think there's no hope for resolution other than altering your behavior slightly.

I finally asked my dealer to elevate the issue to Ford
Hopefully Ford gets enough complaints they finally do something
