Any chance Ford moves off of these tops for ‘25 and just goes with something similar to what Jeep uses for their hardtop construction?
That would make sense and in the long run no warranty claims. Just a thought:unsure:

This is why I am seriously scared to put a roof top tent on my Bronco. The sides seem so flimsy when I take it off and put it back on. No idea how they don’t fold like paper with a tent and people sitting on top of it.

UPDATE: Still waiting……the top was replaced in one week, who knew that a seat belt retractor would take more than 2 weeks more. The only thing keeping me patient is that I am driving another Bronco on their dime. If they don’t want their non squatch OB on trails I better get Pokey back before my planned trip next weekend.

So now that it has turned colder up here in the north east it appears as though my MIC top has not liked it a whole lot. 😞

Top pic looks way worse in person. Hard to get a good photo of it. It is cracked and very wavy.

In the second pic it was cracked this summer but barely noticeable but now they have exploded.

Perhaps a taped on spoiler would help?

Do you think cold and freezing water might have contributed to the escalating cracking? My top has a few small cracks, and I was thinking of applying something on the surface, to prevent water from getting inside the cracks, but not sure what.
Here is the same

section from the summer.

They were there but way more pronounced now. It took me 3 or 4 tries to get this pic so you could see them. Had to get real close to get them in the pic. The part across the top of the side window had no cracks in it then, but has them now.

It is hard to get a good pic of these. You have to have the right light and the right angle to really see it. Personally I think the cold did not help the situation.

Why bother? It's cracked. Have Fordshit replace it.

Yes but you have to pay extra for the painted MOD top. That said even though the MOD tops are constructed differently, they haven't been sold in volumes where we would know if they are as good as Jeep tops, although I've not heard of any Heritage owners complaining about them.

What is the root cause of the cracking? I have to believe Ford has done an ishikawa analysis and determined this. Is it cold weather? Hot weather? Something else?

There’s such a wide variation between those who’ve never had a problem and those who’ve had several tops replaced. From following these threads, it seems to me there’s no correlation between failures and roof racks, roof top tents, frequent on/off, temperature variance or severity of off-road use. That takes me to manufacturing. Is it a good design with poor quality control at the factory? Or is it a design that is simply too susceptible to minor variations in the build process Or just too difficult to get right? Whatever it is, it’s discouraging Ford can’t get a grip on it. But what do I know. This isn’t my area of expertise.

I bought one of the tops offered by invitation in June. 13k miles later, all is still well. Maybe I better start knocking on wood. 😊

take it in!

I plan on doing just that. I had to stop by the dealer for my work one day and caught the salesman and he asked how's the Bronco?? To which I replied good other than the top.

I agree, no rhyme or reason. I have 8K on the ticker. Top never been off. Hand washed every time with just soap and water. I think it is just manufacturing flaws. and they do not rear their ugly head until the top has had time to "cure" completely. I think sometimes that outer layer just is not thick enough.

I recall the first issues were that the edges would split apart, among other things, well, all my edges are solid, no sign of any issue. That is why I think they do not get the resin thick enough in the middle of the panels. The passenger side only has a few cracks near the leading edge of the window and none along the top. Those cracks appeared at the same time the driver's side, and they have not gotten any worse. Where the driver's side has exploded over the last few months.
