Plastic dashboard ruined by a 'rat'

Well, I got this cute 'rat' from a friend and thought it could be a good decoration. What do I know? Days later, The plastic panel looked different.

Is there a way to restore it?

Unfortunately it needs to be covered/replaced. Air fresheners are notorious for ruining plastics in cars

This info isn’t much help now but the heat from the rat being on the dash probably accelerated the migration of plasticisers out of the rat and onto your dash. The same reason, I found out the hard way, that some types of door mats will damage a composite deck.

I found your pic above in an earlier post on this site - it was the ONLY one I could find with an actual picture of the cover in a new Bronco, so THANK YOU! I went ahead and ordered a couple months ago and i love it! The one thing I dislike on this vehicle is the dash - to be nice about it, I find it too busy looking. Covered it up = problem solved. LOL

yup, air fresheners or plastics can ruin the dash. they "drip" out the nasty. theres no fix, just let other people know...

If it helps, this is a Disney souvenir, not an air fresher. But I guess the concept is the same, some volatile substances get out and 'melt' the panel

Attached is the link - just be sure to choose the correct cover, either WITH CENTER SPEAKER or WITHOUT CENTER SPEAKER. I ordered the wrong one but rather than return it, they sent me a swatch of fabric and I was able to fix it (pic attached of my patch job lol). They offer samples so you can find what works for you. Well you’re not supposed to remove them from plastic sleeve. Just clip the top open so the string can be used to hang it
