Badlands Sasquatch has terrible MPG

Oh I understand why, (lighter + aero + gearing) but it's still funny when a 450hp v8 is what I consider my "fuel efficient" vehicle.

Ha ha, yeah, I have a 600+ HP sports car that has gotten me 28mpg on the freeway if I behave and keep it at 70. I can't say the same about any other vehicle in the stable, certainly not the Bronco. Of course, when I start going 0-60 in less than 2.9, it gets much thirstier and starts returning Bronco-like fuel economy.

Mine gets 16 to 20 mpg. I can be a little heavy footed, but I don’t drive it like I stole it.

Well, my 1979 Bronco 351M got 8 MPG, so the 19 MPG I get in my 2022 Base 2.3L is great.
Broncos were never really meant for long road trips, but we gotta drive them to the fun places to have our fun!

I get the same gas mileage in my 2010 Chevy SB V6 than I do my Bronco. The difference? It has a 26g tank. When I'm out driving the countryside (like Palo Pinto), I now always consider, should I get gas at that sketchy gas station?

Yep, I had a 2017 F-150 with a 36 gallon tank. It hurt to fill it back when fuel was $4.00+, but it would go 600 to 700 miles on a fill!

I'm going to tell my story with gas mileage. We drove from Iowa to Moab last summer plus I drive often a 400 mile round trip to my parents farm to help. I'm not a speed demon but I like to cruise about 5-7 over posted limits so you know my habits. My Bronco is a 22, 2 slammer Wildtrak, HOSS package

Driving to Moab on I80 to I76 threw Nebraska I tried a few things to pass time. ECO mode, sport mode, standard. I soon found out that ECO is not MPG friendly it was down from standard by 2.1 MPG on two tanks one going out one coming home. Sport was down 2.7 MPG and ran in 4A the whole time the rest was in 2H. I tried to always use Sinclair Fuel premium if possible. and we never ran above 80 MPH 22.8 MPG. Now in the mountains when wee slowed down to 70 MPH we started seeing 24-25 MPG. On HWY 550 we got an incredible 31.2 MPG between Durango to Ouray to Montrose. but that was slow driving I would guess 40-45 MPH at it was raining sleet and snow. Note tire pressure was at 36PSI

Now my daily driving 11 miles to work and back it 17.5 MPG most on 4 lane closed access roads. Going to the farm is 19-20 MPG with a mix of driving 2 lane 4 lanes driving thru small towns typical speed is 65MPH.

My father always hand calculated his mileage and I unfortunately got the bad habit from him. Plus as an engineer I'm always curious.

Moderate speeds are a Bronco’s best friend if you’re looking for fuel efficiency.

So they accelerate faster, and I totally agree with that. The rest of your aguement does not address running at a steady speed.

If I'm accelerating and declerating a lot I'm not going to get good mileage, but crusing along at 70 mph for a hundred miles at the same speed, I don't see how weight of the wheel and tire makes the slightest difference.

Exactly at a steady speed heavy wheels act like flywheels and use rotational inertia to keep things spinning.

My 2000 f350 7.3 diesel dually gets the same as my Bronco Badlands 4 door 2.7 SAS.

Really? I could get 35-40MPG consistently .................in my 2023 Honda CRV Hybrid. But I traded it for the Bronco. Why? Because though reliable and efficient it was BORING. My commute is only 6 miles to work with only an occasional long trip. Life is short, have fun. So I got my Wildtrak and never looked back. It is worth the smiles per gallon I now get. I can get 18-19 MPG on a trip. Saw 20MPG once if I play nice, but since getting the Ford Performance Tune I indulge my inner juvenile hooligan and have seen as little as 13 MPG....Still smiling so much my face hurts. The thing is, the Bronco is not a traditional SUV. It was never designed to be one. It is an awesome, capable OFF ROAD vehicle made for crawling, or in the case of the Wildtrak, high speed desert running. Highway tripping is not its forte. Not dissing the OP but if he's thinking worth selling over poor mileage then I agree. For him it's the wrong choice of vehicle.

My worst tank was 13.5 mpg, 80+mph across north Dakota in a headwind.

Best tank was 26mpg cruising around Yellowstone at 45mph

Funny, I saw almost exactly those same numbers in those same places.

My guy, it has the aerodynamics of a brick. On top of that, you bought the badlands sasquatch which is the heaviest, least efficient possible configuration of all broncos. What did you expect?

I got close to 19mpg on occasion and then winter gas came…15 now. Very unscientific observation

Just did two back to back road trips to St George Utah. About 300 miles each way.

After 8 months ownership My Badlands Sasquatch on 35’s gets about 18mpg around town.
But the 2 road trips had me averaging 13.6 mpg on the highway. One trip was loaded up with two adults and 2 children and luggage. The second trip was 1 adult 1 kid and minimal luggage. Difference was only .4 mpg for the “lighter” trip.
Is this normally what people are seeing?
It’s almost worth selling over.

My 2022 Base 2 door is stock except for 32" Tires and I have never got less than 20mpg.
My average on my country road commute is 22 to 23. Trips down south to Phoenix at Freeway speed I'll get 21.
I have 7Mt and don't use any mode other than normal and run 87 gas.
I had an F150 2.7 loaded with all my work stuff and always got 20 or better. Pulling a 16 ft flatbed with a ton or so on it would still get 16 to 18.
I think you have a heavy foot and maybe a mechanical problem.
