Badlands Sasquatch has terrible MPG

The "huge tires" only make a tiny difference if any. And I don't understand how being a Badlands is any difference at all from any of the other Bronco models. Would you care to explain what difference it would make?

Big tires are heavy, the K02 that come on the Badlands (LT285/70R17) are 51lbs according to TireRack. For comparison, the 255/70R16 Bridgestone Dueller's that come on the Base Bronco are 31lbs (again, according to TireRack)

This is why I wish the four-door wasn't manufactured; it gives people the false sense of it being a road trip vehicle.

Nothing I enjoy doing with my Bronco results in better MPG, because I know I bought a Bronco.

You either love it and accept it's MPG or sell it. No shame in it. Nobody has to turn in their proverbial "man card" if the Bronco isn't the right fit for them.

Although I don't have a 4 door, my Bronco is an awesome road trip rig. As a matter of fact, this past weekend, I drove from Texas to Florida and back. The trip out was 14 hours straight through and then did two 7 hour days on the way back to see the superbowl with my family.

If you are not changing speed, but driving along at a steady rate, how is heavier going to make a big difference in mileage? I still don't understand that.

I don't know how heavy a Sasquatch wheel and tire is, but it has to be around 80 pounds when I've tried lifting my spare up and down.

Why do you think one of the first mods done on performance cars is to go to lighter wheels? hell, even on this forum people do it.

Turning mass takes power (not just overcoming inertia), power requires fuel.

Go roll that sasquatch wheel up a steep grade and then go roll a small car tire up the same hill. Tell me which you'd rather do again.

My 2dr 2.7 base sas gets up to 23 on the highway. And those 35" Goodyears w/wheels weigh 86.5 lbs. They don't seem to hurt the gas mileage.

Just did two back to back road trips to St George Utah. About 300 miles each way.

After 8 months ownership My Badlands Sasquatch on 35’s gets about 18mpg around town.
But the 2 road trips had me averaging 13.6 mpg on the highway. One trip was loaded up with two adults and 2 children and luggage. The second trip was 1 adult 1 kid and minimal luggage. Difference was only .4 mpg for the “lighter” trip.
Is this normally what people are seeing?
It’s almost worth selling over.

Strange. Just made a trip from Dallas to Irvine, CA and back. Also spent time in the desert at KOH. We installed a brand new hardtop that weighs more than the OEM hardtop and stored the soft top in the back. Had luggage for both wife and me. Sasquatch so on 35s. They were aired to 40 and in higher elevations they were reaching 45 so aired back down to 37. We averaged 18mpg.

I think MPG you've got is exactly what it should have been. 17 MPG (as tested) is very good, close to excellent for that kind of vehicle. Get higher octane fuel, drive slower etc and you'll get even better mileage.

I've never reset the trip computer on my non-squatch Badlands 4dr since I bought it and at about 35k miles I believe I'm in the 15.5 - 15.7 range (I don't check often) with a good mix of highway road trips in there.

So they accelerate faster, and I totally agree with that. The rest of your aguement does not address running at a steady speed.

If I'm accelerating and declerating a lot I'm not going to get good mileage, but crusing along at 70 mph for a hundred miles at the same speed, I don't see how weight of the wheel and tire makes the slightest difference.

Here is an older article - but a 15% MPG difference just from different tread. I’d say tires make a difference.

Your MPG does sound off OP. I already know where mines will be, I am on a 3' lift and I have 37's. Even with that on my trip to Ol Florida to wheel, I drove on cruise at 80mph, the entire way, in sport mode, and I was at 15.8 MPG. On the way back I was cruising at 75 MPH and I averaged 16.8 MPG.

I thought it was great lol. With that said, I also have a few engine mods, and a tune. I also run 93 full time.

I was expecting the bad MPG. It’s not a massive issue for me. I was just surprised at how low it was and was curious if others saw the same.

Badlands Sasquatch with 35’s
Drive in eco mode with cruise control on the whole time at 78mph which I know is a major factor. Does much better at 65 on highway in city.

Overall I'm ok with the mpg, it's the only car I've owned where I'm averaging better that the sticker.

My Mustang GT got better than sticker, even with the AC on and the top down.

Bronco is the first and only vehicle I have ever owned that got worse MPG on the freeway vs town though.

I did 85mph in Normal mode on I70 and I15, and averaged better mpgs on I15. Didn’t even think about ECO mode. Filled up with either 87 or 88 octane the entire trip. The 2.7L ran great, and the Bronco was an awesome roadtrip vehicle. No way I would have wanted to do that in a Jeep. Did the same trip last year in my Explorer, and the Bronco was every bit as comfortable. Although, more road noise, but that was expected.
