YES...Definitely improves "post wheeling trip" cleanup! Most rear bumpers are like a big dirt scoop attached to the rear frame horns. I have a tube bumper/swing away combo on my YJ, and even though its a Chinese smittybuilt, its been perfect for that rig for 20 years! Have high hopes for the reaper. Have no info on lead time. Just the confirmation email. Also my 40s are 1-2 weeks out, and the star of the show, the portals, we are probably talking about December...but at least I have a plan! The spare is a real issue where I live, as most clubs require a spare, and a correct sized one, or your rig doesn't meet safety requirements.

Exactly!! I pulled my skids last week and must of had 50lbs caked on them and underneath! I am curious about the lead time.
What tires are you getting? I was looking at nitto trail grabbers. I drive 3.5 hrs to main places i wheel so on road is important as off. I was recommended nitto, but never used them. Don't like my KO2 of the Braptor in the wet dirt or road. The stock wranglers have been good to me on and off.
I hope the portals by the the end of Nov. That would be over twelve weeks but we will see. Good things come to those who wait!!
Some places I go need a spare some don't.
Also on my list is shocks/springs. Love the ride if stock but winch on the front brought it down then the rear bumper and tire will pull that down and going to at least put a skid over the cross pieces/transmission. So just want to bring it back up to "stock". I got a recommendation of fox. Another rabitt hole to go down for research!!!!

Nitto are on backorder, otherwise they would be a good choice. My local distributor has 3x Cooper stt pro in 40x13.5x17, and can get the other 2 within 2 weeks (i am told). I currently have that same tire in 37x12.5x17 and its been damn good, so just gonna go w/what I know. For purely trail use, I may consider maxis trepadors in 42x14.5x17, but that would not be for street use

Quinn seemed to be pretty adamant that I stick to 38s.... Kept referencing what I thought was aesthetics.... That little two door that they have the portals on, he started it out on 40s but did not take long for him to change it to 38s.... He never admitted to any rubbing but for some reason he has me a little skittish going to the 40s... I did notice that they were running the Nitto trail grapplers on that truck. I would be very happy with 38s on the trail but 40s seem to be a magic number when it comes to the show side of things. I plan on doing both.

I was wondering the same thing with the promos. I think we should investigate, figure out what he knows. Rub maybe less than other things (like engine performance). It still looks like there's plenty of room in the promo videos, but I wonder if he's gun-shy in some aspect out of his control but he may get blamed for?

I think he is just a real guy willing to share his opinion on all things, Including aesthetics. We will still be geared lower running a 40 than we were stock. To get back to stock gearing we would have to run a 42.7 inch tire. We are pushing the center of tire down 3.88 inches and outboard 3.5 inches. I am having a hard time seeing what it is going to rub on other than possibly stock bumpers.... I would be willing to push my bumpers out at each end about 3/4 inch to keep them stock... Not that I like them but I really want to keep the heritage look. I seem to be locked in to trying to maintain the stock aesthetic... just with a lot more trail worthiness and well attention grabbing at the shows.

I believe it would have more to do with the M210 diff. (Dana 44) Asking it hold up to 40's is alot. The rule of thumb is a Dana 60. So, if one would upgrade to the Ultimate44 (closest thing to a Dana 60) then it should hold 40s, IMO.

You may be right.... but there is another side to that. So you are suggesting upgrading the front axle. Where are the forces increased on the front axle when going from a 35 to a 40.... It is an IFS so the CVs would get significant additional forces BUT they are actually decreased in this case by the portals 1.22 gear reduction. all of the forces that would be placed on the tube (on a solid axle) are instead placed on the a arms and knuckle.... Weld is replacing the knuckle so the concern is the a arms, isn't it?

I'm just wondering why, when announcing the Bronco Portals, he chose 38's. I suspect it's because he thinks there's some advantage to doing so. Whether it's a gearing fiasco like @Bmadda is suggesting, or pure "aesthetics" about what looks right, I think knowing is 3/4th the battle here. Is there a "problem" so to speak? Does it just look... funny to go 40's, or is there a systemic issue that might push an axle upgrade? They seem like diametric problems.

I think you're right, Quinn doesn't seem like the kinda guy to stretch the truth beyond what he himself believes. However, here I think we should know facts. Why did he pick 38's? Is he willing to go 42's long-term as he suggests is possible? This is a money-mouth problem, and I'm willing to give Quinn some benefit, but $20k worth is a lot to give and not get an explanation and/or a retrenchment if that's necessary. I trust him as far as he's willing to trust me, and I just want the real truth.

Not saying I'd want to run 42", but hell, maybe 40"? If he can prove 42", we're sold pretty much on any width back to 35". But if he says 1.22 regearing, we're talking an "easy" 42" and 40" is a given. He's talked this up in the interviews and videos he's posted, so not making it up.

Yes... that is the gear reduction.... Nothing more. The reason those gears were chosen was because of the Jeep. He produced and offered those portals first. rather than reinventing the wheel (pun intended) he is sourcing the exact same gears he has offered on the jeep just had to redesign the housing. Remember the Jeep comes with 33s.... x 1.22 = 40

I don't care about the Jeep. He's said 42" are possible on Bronco, based on the gear reduction. If he wants to back off that now, ok, like I said, I'm a reasonable person. We all get out over our skis sometimes. But if that's truth, I expect Quinn to acknowledge that, because I trust he trusts I can grok it. I'm not a Quinn apologist, I just want to know what's truly going on.

Yeah, 40's sound awesome but that's a lot of rubber. 38's would be great considering that's 20% bigger than any tire I've ran before (and my first truck in '95 was an F-250 jacked 6" back in the day). If reality is 38's are the best experience, I would think Quinn would say that and give a good explanation to say why. That's all. He's a good communicator, but consumer markets have a tendency to distort things.
