When he portaled his 392 he showed a 5 gal bucket under the axle. I'm surprised he didn't with the Bronc. I'm sure it would fit.

Actually when they took the little two door to Portland??? some show... They show a homer bucket under the front diff as part of the display... the truck was on 40's at the time. They have since changed it back to 38's.... only 1 inch drop and the bucket had a couple inches above it at the show... (I was not there just saw pics).

Thats cool with the Heritage and keeping it true!
Mine is an FE. I am probably only going to a 38 as well, but if I am upgrading I would like to have some room to move up if I want to in the future.
I know there is time until the portals come but with everything taking so long would rather be ahead and have the setup ready.

Fully understand.... I really do not know what I am going to do in the end yet.... I am convinced on the 38's for me... at least for now... Now how to handle that spare... Really good question that I have not answered yet for myself. I think I will focus on getting a 38 on there for now and see how it goes. If things change in the future... I guess they change in the future. I will figure it out then.... Maybe I will go with no spare and a tire repair kit.... Always a bitch on the trail though.... definatly open to ideas. Just... damn can't say I love that bumper but I just don't want to change it... If I did there are some options that look enticing.

Hey @Bmadda and @5GENIDN what are you planning for your spare?
I dont think just a reinforcement for the tailgate is enough, so I would like to get a bumper with tire carrier that will hold up to a 40"
Worried about departure angle and would like it to piviot with the tailgate, but worried about the tailgate not being able to handle the abuse off road, so is an independent swing with a lock better?
Looking at:

Reaper Off Road
LOD
Road Armor ( cant find tire size limit)

Any thoughts?

I have seen it... appreciate that you are pointing it out. I would really like to keep the stock appearance though. What I want and what is available at this time have not quite aligned.... I will have to make a compromise somewhere eventually.... Just not sure where or what that compromise will be yet.

That was for @Tor148 , who asked the question. You might contact @Metal-tech 4x4 and see if they could fabricate a custom bumper to match your situation. I know I'd want to keep the style going if I could (black bumper on the Heritage, just bleh), but I don't know anyone's going to come out with Heritage-specific designs per se.

Yeah, that's kinda the point of the portals: Keep it stock with better stock axle performance (it's a 1.22 regear), real clearance and bigger tires. I guess someone could upgrade the axles to go even more bonkers (there's always those types...), but for me at least, I want that bone stock upgrade in a bolt-on performer and maintain factory ride characteristics.

Ya ain't gettin' mine, in other words. When I finally have the scratch to get them, that is.

Probably the best description I have read on a tire carrier bumper. It operates separately from the tailgait which i am not sure if that is good or bad yet....

I agree about the styling. Would love to be able to bolt on to the frame and maybe cut a notch to put the bumper back on.
I wonder if you could do that with the road armor bumper???

I finally made up my mind and decided to pull the trigger on this setup:

Says it will handle a 40, and what I like most about it is that the swing away assy is completely independent of the bumper...mounts directly to the frame by itself! I also ordered their bumper, but I would bet it can be made to work with other bumpers. I like the tube bumper for mine simply because my body is lifted, and the gap will be much less noticeable w/a tube bumper. Will see how long it takes to ship!

YES...Definitely improves "post wheeling trip" cleanup! Most rear bumpers are like a big dirt scoop attached to the rear frame horns. I have a tube bumper/swing away combo on my YJ, and even though its a Chinese smittybuilt, its been perfect for that rig for 20 years! Have high hopes for the reaper. Have no info on lead time. Just the confirmation email. Also my 40s are 1-2 weeks out, and the star of the show, the portals, we are probably talking about December...but at least I have a plan! The spare is a real issue where I live, as most clubs require a spare, and a correct sized one, or your rig doesn't meet safety requirements.
