Our temperature this morning was 0 and the bronco sat outside, plugged in as the wife’s new bronco was in the garage.
I most definitely heard transmission noise like rocks rolling around as I started it in neutral. Worst I’ve heard it. Before it was barely perceptible.
Part of my decision to get the manual was that it would be more trouble free and bulletproof compared to the automatic.
It’s not like a manual transmission is a recent design, 100+ years and still can’t get it right.

Just got off the phone with my SA, and he believed that if ford ships a transmission to them, it's usually going to arrive wet.

Not saying that this confirms my prior thoughts, as I don't have direct evidence on our bronco MT being shipped wet.

Hmmm...

Alright guys, new to this forum and new to the bronco, picked mine up last week on 12/15. I did stalk some of the forums and saw that some people noted this issue and was really hoping my 23 wouldn't have it. Well, I can say mine has done this since the day I picked it up from the dealership. I currently have 140 Miles on the car and it does this at cold starts always.

I saw the TSB, but not really a fan of having the whole car ripped apart right away. Does anyone know if this has proven to remove the issue or if there are any other alternatives?

Talked to service manager today. TSB recognized. They are ordering the parts. Transmission technician confirmed. No lead time on parts. They will update me soon as they know. How @Ford Motor Company handles this issue will. Will forever be my opinion of the company. Hope it all works out. Love my bronco. But I know the service manager a little to well at this point. We are on a first name basis.

I’m in agreement with you. Mine sounds like it’s full of rocks when it’s below 50 degrees. It’s pretty embarrassing if people are around to hear it.
Once it warms up, it’s fine and I’m not excited about having my dealer tear the transmission apart when I haven’t even hit 2,500 miles yet.
Like many other have echoed, one of the reasons I bought a manual was because of the reliability.

My noise started at 400 miles and now have 5,200. Can't say it has gotten much worse, shifts fine, and is silent after warmup. Decided to take it to my dealer now for two reasons. Ford has finally issued a TSB, and last week someone came up to me in the Target parking lot and asked if I knew my Bronco was making really bad noises.

Dropped the rig off the night before so it would get a good cold soak. Received a call from the service advisor in the morning. His exact words words "that noise scared the shit out of me"

They contacted Ford and are waiting to hear if it will be the TSB fix or a replacement transmission.

Stay tuned.

Good morning! If you send over a private message with your VIN and dealership info, I'd be happy to look into this for you.

So I’ve been having the grinding issue on early morning start ups. Just for shits and giggles I didn’t turn on the bronco until 1 pm today high of 68 degrees. Didn’t hear any grinding. Any thoughts to what is the issue? And why it goes away with warmer weather?

All of Ford’s automatic transmissions come prefilled, and we just have to double check the fluid level after install.
I haven’t replaced an MT-88, but I would assume it comes the same way.

German manufactured Getrag would almost certainly be better, but there are plenty of components that get manufactured in China that work great.
Getrag/Ford certainly have a history of sourcing crappy transmissions from China. The MT82 is a case in point.

https://jalopnik.com/faulty-chinese-built-transmissions-plague-new-ford-must-5792482

And a class action lawsuit has been filed.

https://lawanchor.com/ford-transmission-defect-class-action-lawsuit/

Based on the posts on this thread of Ford telling owners "that noise is normal" or multiple gearbox swaps not solving the issue, my hope is diminishing.

Mine is in the shop now for the new TSB fix. Will wait and see.
