Manual transmission scraping noise / grinding sound

Starting to think the sound is louder in colder climates. We’re just barely dropping below 40F-50F in the morning right now in GA. Based on your jacket cuff alone I’d say it’s a bit colder where you are.

Added my clip, sorry it’s just dark I filmed closer to the pedals, can hear the sound much clearing in recordings there. I’m depressing and releasing clutch.

The TSB is for starting in ambient temps below 50F so whatever the issue actually is, it's either triggered or significantly exacerbated by colder climate/weather. I'd schedule in at your dealership for sometime in January and hope that you can get yours done.

Apologize if this was already discussed earlier in the thread, but does anyone know if Ford acknowledged this issue with regards to correcting it for future vehicles/vehicles built after a certain date? Or is the "fix" still in process? I saw the TSB on the previous page.

I just ask because I'm (still) waiting on my MT bronco to be scheduled. I was curious if this will potentially still be a problem for 2023 models.

*UPDATE*

I got a call from the head of Techs at my Ford dealership telling me that Ford sent them a TSB for 5th and 6th synchro gear rings on the 7MT. The TSB describes all the symptoms that we all have been having: grinding noise on first and second gear when driving, grinding noise while the clutch is engage (50 degrees or lower temp) and slightly going away when warm, and the noise going away when putting the shifter on sixth gear without pressing the Clutch in. She’s going to order the parts and let me know when they’re there so I can bring my bronco in and get it all fixed up. I was hoping I could hear this from them, she told me the smartest thing was to wait for a TSB instead of doing anything mayor. Will keep you guys updated!

Which dealership are you in contact with. I'm very reluctant to give my car to any dealerships, regardless of warranty. Especially when it concerns something like taking apart a transmission and putting it back together properly. Out of all comments your dealership is the only one that at least looks like what they are doing and are actually willing to do it.

Several Dealerships I called were surprised that Ford had issued a TSB for the manual transmission, and told me that Ford should have offered updated transmissions to all of us..

There are only a few certain manual transmissions from Ford that aren’t serviceable. The MT-88 isn’t one of them.

Probably nobody, and I get it. But Ford isn’t going to just put a whole new transmission in it when they can replace a few synchros for a lot cheaper.

The transmission will still technically be new I don't really care about that, I'm worried that half of these dealerships can't do an oil change properly let alone put together a transmission.

But it becomes a real problem when dealers don't have techs that can fix transmissions.

They could end up eating Broncos for lemon law issues.

Two of the dealers I called, told me that they do not have a mechanic specialized in manual transmissions, a few other dealers, after reviewing the TSB , told me that they are boked for the next six weeks..

Which is a total lie. They just don't want to or can't take care of this. You could probably still end up calling Ford, but...
I will try to find someone else and call up Ford to just eat the bill, but we all know how that would play out.

This is ridiculous. I love my Bronco, despite this and despite all of it's other drawbacks, but a bad dealership experience might just get me over the ledge. So far I was able to avoid them, butit seems I don't really have a choice on this one.

Not sure if "Ford certified mechanics" are any better than other mechanics who work for transmission shops

Speaking as a current Ford transmission tech at a very large dealership in a major city, while I can't speak for every other dealership, I can tell you that I'm booked out at least 2 months right now with work. Mainly due to the fact that transmission technicians are extremely difficult to find for all dealerships lately. I'm the only one specialized in transmission work at my dealership, trying to keep up with the work of 3 people.

So while some might be, I highly doubt most of the the dealerships are purposely lying about being backed up with work. It's just the way things are right now unfortunately.

And while you might feel like dealerships are to blame for this, just remember that it all comes back to Ford. If their warranty labor times weren't absolute garbage, and actually paid technicians a fair amount of time to repair something without constantly jumping through hoops, they wouldn't be so difficult to find.
