Driving around on 4H on the pavement is very bad. Driveline bind, etc. Always make sure you are in 2H before you return to paved roads.

The Bronco is a very traditional 4WD with some additions: GOAT modes & 4A. Some might consider it non-tradional to have the electronically controlled selector rather than a manual connection to the transfer case. There's nothing we can do about electronic controls, but ignoring the GOAT modes and just using the buttons allows us to have the traditional experience.

On vacation this summer, I looked down at the dash on the highway to check my speed (around 65-70), and to my horror noticed was still in 4H  Fortunately, there were only a couple of turns on the pavement from the dirt road I was on to the highway, so almost all of it was more or less a straight line. I was about 10 miles down the road. A press of the 2hi button quickly fixed it all.

Thank goodness the front and rears are the same ratio. On both my Early Broncos, the D44 up front was a 4.09 and the rear was 4.11. Just rolling a few feet on pavement would bind up enough to not be able to shift the xfer case out of 4hi/lo.

This will void your drivetrain warranty. Damage caused by running in 4h or 4l on pavement is not going to be covered. You can cause significant damage to the axles and transfercase. If you ever need any warranty work you should never mention you made this mistake.
Except there are now a bunch of us that know of your error. How willing are you to buy our silence? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!

Ok ok it makes perfect sense. I knew about 4H vs 4A, just didn't think about it at the time. I come from a Land Cruiser which is full time 4wd and this isn't even a consideration...unless you do something stupid like leave the lockers engaged. FWIW I've been doing this a long time, know exactly how 4wd works, low/high, locking diffs, etc. But this is an area where the Bronco works a little differently from traditional 4wd vehicles. I won't forget it again.
The bronco isnt really different from most modern vehicles.. This works the same way my 2011 ford f350 works.Turn knob to put in 4 high or low.

But this is an area where the Bronco works a little differently from traditional 4wd vehicles.
Not true. The Bronco works exactly like a traditional 4wd vehicle. Which is why it was binding on dry pavement.

Howdy, late to the party... shouldn't drive on dry pavement with 4H/4L. I won't go into the details, maybe someone mentioned it here!? ;)

This is the first Ford I’ve ever owned so it’s different for me. Most 4wd vehicles I know can be driven in 4H without binding. Having a separate 4A is different.
