I get the same thing in Denver EVERY single time I cross the intersection of I25 and E470 on the North or South end of town… just give it a minute to get past the interference and the hit Phone List and the Car Play button to the right and it reconnects.

Delete phone from Sync. Delete the Bronco from Bluetooth on phone. Then On the iPhone go to settings-general-transfer or reset iPhone-Reset-Reset Network settings.

Same, 215 and 10 interchange in Colton/San Bernardino dumps it EVERY time, in any direction. Used to think it was the AM broadcast station to the NW, but doubt it.

Am an actual communications technician for work, and haven’t noticed any readily visible equipment in the area that might do it. Going to have to figure out how to run a spectrum analyzer while shifting a manual.

It's going to be 2.4Ghz interference. That's what Bluetooth and Wifi both use for Carplay. Oddly enough though, the Bronco also has a 5Ghz radio but something tells me the app projection specifications only allow for it to use the 2.4Ghz one.

Then very well could be Part 15 (“pro-Sumer” grade, non-licensed) point-to-point microwave.

I hate Sync 4. But I am (almost) certain the problem with random disconnects is RF interference overriding the connection. It is such a problem because the Bronco has a plastic roof and loses any Faraday-cage like shielding that a conventional vehicle has. Mine would disconnect every damn time around I41N and Brown Deer Road in Milwaukee and any time near the Orland Park, IL Police Department.

Solution: Turn Bluetooth off and use a wired connection. I don't think any software update will fix it. Nor hardware update.

(Well, I guess you could install aluminum foil headliners on the roof and electrically bond them at multiple points to the roll cage)
The only time mine disconnects is when I go to the airport and I 100% know it’s from all the different radio frequencies around from cell towers, radar, etc.

Have done that for both the Sync4 and my phone. Purged the connections on both first, then reset them and started fresh. Still couldn’t make it work on wireless.
Me too. It’s frustrating.

this thread reminded me that i haven't had any major infotainment issues in a while (apart from the crazy dimming of the center screen when i drive under a bridge that started with the last update). I should probably disable auto updates so nothing worse breaks next time.

I had the same experience and RF theory about the exact same southern intersection when I lived in Denver.

@bkirchhoff - I had what sounds like the exact same, super frustrating wireless CarPlay issue a few years ago. After my friend paired his iPhone, mine would intermittently, and then permanently, not work wirelessly. I reset my phone several ways, and nothing helped.

I only fixed it with the approach it sounds like you've already tried - clean delete of all device-association from both ends plus the factory reset on the garbage Sync system.

I still get intermittent uncooperative behavior from Sync, and it randomly prefers my wife's phone over mine, but at least it works wirelessly...eventually.

Funny you should post this when you did as I was just pulling up this message to update this thread. My previous reset was the “light” reset on the phone. I did the full factory reset this morning and after a few hours of getting my phone back up and running, I just walked in from my garage after successfully connecting it to wireless CarPlay for the first time in months!

Bronco was at my Ford dealer yesterday for the shock recall and I asked them to see if they could figure out the wireless CarPlay issue. They said they were able to get their iPhones connected so I decided to do the full factory reset and this seems to have done the trick. We shall see how long this lasts and if I have lingering connectivity issues, but at least I made the connection without a cable today!

I’ve just about given up on CarPlay. Even wired it was glitchy. The last few weeks I’ve just said F-it and ran music just via Bluetooth Sync.

I’m now a couple of days in — so far so good. It has connected automatically like it is supposed to each time I have gotten in. Have low confidence this will last, but I’m enjoying it for now!
