Here is an example Rough Country Hidden Winch with a Whipple IC
IMG_1697.jpeg

So I have seen many here use the hidden RC winch mount. This may be fine for most but one thing to remember, If you wheel in the mud then be forewarned that if you stick it in the mud then need to pull the winch line more than likely that winch will be buried in the mud. You will have to dig out the front of your Bronc to get to the winch to use the winch to extract yourself. Not to mention the approach angle is effected, that thing hangs low.

Just my 2 cents.

Heres my solution, does not block the intercooler or adaptive cruise. parking sensors functional in relocated positions. camera still usable with out a relocation. (some blockage due to winch but not bad)

Very true, unless you get this………

And yes I get the whole block the radiator thing but you have to remember also that if you block the intercooler the ECM will detune the Bronc if the inlet temps rise. Blocking the intercooler will make the intake temps rise. It is a catch 22 scenario. I chose to go with the more power idea. Since installing the IC I have not seen elevated coolant temps but I do not live in AZ. I live in PA and this year has been a weird one. Not as hot as usual. It has been humid and in the upper 80's all summer though.
Total catch 22...even Mishimoto admits that. Living in CA I worry about heat when traveling inland, and although the ECM can detune the Bronc if IC temps rise, if engine temps rise as a result of less cooling across the radiator it just gets hot...not sure if the engine shuts down or goes into limp mode of that happens, but I would not want to risk it logging the code and then having the dealer do an ah-ha if they note the swapped out intercooler. Waaaay too much happening in front, but I don't feel like the rear winch thing will work for 95% of us...and I don't want a droning loud rear muffler delete at 1000 to fit it. I agree that structurally a winch down low makes sense, but I want to avoid surgery and having to make the other required mods. It is sort of funny that even Ford's own winch plate requires programming the ACC but also not several other mods that render some of their own technology useless...yet JCR comes out with something very similar that still allows use of sensors. I think Ford rushed the design and the winch was an absolute afterthought.

I am leaning in that direction as well...did you also order the ACC relocation bracket and the camera relocation bracket? And shipping is 450, correct? Which winch will you use?
Well my "stripper" Big Bend doesn't have the camera/acc sensors' so no. Also ordered rear bumper and sliders and shipping was $450 for all of it (said will ship on one pallet). Max 2 month lead time... Still deciding Smitybuilt/Warn?? Good luck!!

Gotta love strippers...I was blown away that the Rock Hard bumper is only one week out...that is unheard of these days...they must have great welders that stay loyal (or an expensive robot). They can also do 300 shipping per pallet if it goes to a local Fed-Ex hub or to a business address with a loading dock or forklift. I'd also save on not having to get an ACC relocation bracket. Here is what it looks like:

I'd go bull-bar-less and relocate the solenoid for less height. I may even go with a lower profile series Warn...

Heres the details on what I did to put it together. Been working great!

That is the ticket... But for those of us who lack your welding skill or engineering mind, and who seek an easy solution for a winch whilst keeping stock bumper, do you think this has any possibility of being strong enough or is it just junk?

The big thing you need to watch on these is that your front bumper pad, the part attached to the front of the frame, needs reinforced. @Tricky Mike might be able to help with that.

Haha I forgot to post the setup I have. I use the WARN Elite bumper with the Winch setup. I can still touch my intercooler through the gap setup. There is actually a space that is right behind the winch and has fins that direct air to the intercooler from the sides and bottom. The two rectangular holes under the winch also let air in. I had to relocate the adaptive cruise sensor up into the grill. I used the DV8 kit for that. My camera is also not blocked, in the 360 view I do get the giant line that is the Winch and I get the lines in the back for my Jerry cans.

Very good point, a good consideration for almost all winch options. For mine, I have LOD frame tie in brackets on the horns and a few extra tie in plates I made to match the ford OEM winch mount to prevent rotation.

Do the frame rails need to be tied in for all setups that attach to bolt locations for the tow hooks? Or only certain setups?

Do you have active grille shutters in front of your IC?

It’s ok, I think you’re better off with a JCR or ASFIR plate mount. I really wish rough country would sell their plate without the light bar mounting option. As an affordable solid mount.

as others have said it’s important to reinforce the end of the frame at the bumper mounts also as part of a winch instal if you anticipate using the winch heavily.
