Whine when letting off.

Unfortunately I did not get good news today. Apparently the cap that holds the differential carrier in had loose bolts - wiped out the entire assembly. The dealer has ordered the whole rear axle assembly with differential but…. Can you imagine? There’s none in stock so one has to be built No ETA - he’s expecting some kind of time frame tomorrow.
I had zero vibration or noise except for the whine when letting off the accelerator around 35 mph. Heartbroken to say the least but extremely thankful there wasn’t a failure when I was driving 75mph on the interstate.

Talked to a guy last weekend, Has a whine too. He thinks its just Turbo whine when you let off.
Don't know if I buy that.

Knowing what I know now, I definitely wouldn’t buy that. But my noise was coming from the rear so nowhere near the turbo.

I just purchased a new 2023 Badlands SAS last Thursday. Noticed the same noise when letting off the throttle - most noticeable around 35mph. Took it in yesterday and they’re replacing pinion parts today. Less than 500 miles. Fingers crossed they fix it right and replace all the necessary parts so I can enjoy my beauty.

Purchased 6/8 - to the shop 6/13. They’ve had it since then. The rear axle assembly is “special order” been waiting since the 13th. Got a call this morning that it’s repaired and will be ready for pick up this evening.

I’ll let you know after I drive it. My advice is to either have them order it now or get it in ASAP because the part takes 3-4 weeks to get to the service center unfortunately.

In my case - it definitely wasn’t “normal”. I’d say that the differential being destroyed internally due to someone failing to tighten the carrier bolts doesn’t constitute “normal”.
