Think of it this way, now someone "else" is tracking you, and they have the ability to disable your Bronco at will.
I'd be researching this company. Just my 2¢.

Well one cool feature it’s has is that using the app, you can open the car remotely and start it, in case you loose your keys. Best part, you don’t have to be in the car. For example, you let someone borrow your Bronco and they lose the keys and you’re the one with the app, you can unlock it and start it remotely so it can be driven.
I'm not faulting the product, just the means in which it is installed and used in cases like this. I would think the "don't touch my ride" people over in the duck thread would be absolutely incensed by this. If I paid for a product like this, I wouldn't want anyone else having any control over it. And if I didn't pay for it, I wouldn't want it installed if someone else had control over it. Of course, this is all just hypothetical, as I wouldn't purchase a vehicle from a dealer if they insisted I pay for it, and I wouldn't trust that they didn't have control over it if they installed it, so I'd end up buying from somewhere else.

And of course, even that is hypothetical, because I just bought mine from @Granger Ford and didn't have to worry about any of that. 😁

It seems weird a security system would have an obvious button, isn't the idea to be stealthy? I noticed that all the vehicles at my local Ford dealer have a security system and a dealer upcharge for it. I would not be happy to have something screwed into the dash on my new vehicle!

Probably better it stay, since they screwed it into the plastic panel. Doubt you'd want screw holes showing on your new ride.

I would insist however to get the full manual on what it is so you can understand how to operate or disable it entirely. May be nice to have for theft prevention / recovery and may lend to a discount on your insurance policy though by having it.
For $1400....we'll give you the info. lol

i completely understand. I just kind of gave up on the whole tracking thing as if they want to track where the truck is, they can use the onboard GPS, Sirius, cell phone maintenance alert system and so any other things we use and are oblivious to how of an information trail we leave behind. I figure if they want to find it bad enough, they will. Others may not be as ok with that as me, but I reality, does any really know how “untraceable” they are?

Stealership is a great word for it. I'll bet the cost to dealer is $200-300 tops. Gotta pay the mechanic anyway....so over 1k easy profit.

Self destruct button. I believe the road warrior had a similar switch. Ignites dynamite taped to the gas tank.
Wow, is this dealer installed? Always wanted a self-destruct button. Eliminates the madness of trade negotiation!

With all the thefts of vehicles at dealerships, the KARR system was likely installed as theft prevention/deterrence and the dealer now wants you to pay for their security, even though most cars come with their own security systems.

Absolutely. I think people forget that the phone in our pockets provide all the information needed to find out where you are and where you've been. More so than your car since your phone is almost always with you.

However, on the infotainment system I did turn off sharing my driving data. Not that I'm doing anything nefarious, but I don't care to have that information find it's way back to my insurance company.

I retired from running the IT shop for a major insurance company that like every other company out there, offered an app to monitor your driving. They monitored everything, your acceleration, braking, time of day you were driving, etc., and gave you a score. Initially it was marketed as providing you a discount and your score would determine the amount.

I know that since I left, they are now basing your overall rate based on it. Even if you never speed or drive aggressively, you can pay more if you're driving in urban stop & go traffic at rush hour vs. driving on rural country roads.

Makes sense since there's more risk with the former. As far as I'm concerned, they know where I live, they have my credit score and driving record, they don't need to know any more than that.

does anyone know what this button is for? I can’t find it in the owner manual.
I press mine just for the heck of it every time I get in. Eventually I got a letter from a little old lady in Germany saying "Knock it off!". Kidding, I don't have that button.

Yeah but you still have to worry about someone touching it. Imagine how much your Bronco would get "messed up" if someone put a note on the door handle. The same guys came out on the waving thread. I'm pretty sure these guys aren't getting anything touched :teehee:.
